There is one reason, and one reason only why the Mail has picked up on this, and that is the physical attraction of the officer concerned.
That explains why the Mail printed eight images of the young lady concerned, which is seven more than is required to make the point, including two images of her out of uniform, and therefore irrelevant to the story, which is two more than needed to not make any point at all.
I would suggest that if the officer had looked less like a catwalk model, and more like Boris Johnson, the Mail would have passed on the story entirely.
