That's alright they can demonstrate all they like, it's their absolute right to, and despite being a Remainer I'll stick up for that right, nothing to do with whether they give us an easy ride or not, they absolutely should be able to, and only five arrested, so not much of a demo really eh? x
"...and only five arrested, so not much of a demo really eh?"

Do you measure the effectiveness of a demonstration by the number of arrests, Calico?
No but generally given the strength of feeling and the sheer numbers I think that 5 is quite restrained on the part of the police.
It was the police who weren’t in for an easy ride.
Lucky it was mainly peaceful.
It’s not clear what exactly what they were demonstrating AGAINST. Obviously FOR Brexit, and presumably pleased with the vote as it means No Deal is still a possibility.
It was two rival and it seems entirely separate protests as well: Nigel and his Brexit party, and UKIP and their own folk.
I fear that (as predicted on earlier threads) these demonstrations will turn into riots,
Ich //furious over the 'Brexit betrayal' of Theresa May's latest EU Commons defeat//is what they were protestingquote[against].
I think given that Brexit is looking increasingly unlikely, you will get hardcore right wingers and militant nationalists hijacking perfectly reasonable demos about that, so I think you could be right Danny, which is a pity because Bexiteers do have the right to be unhappy, I can see that.
I don't know why the URL says "dozens", there were lots more than that (I saw the protest yesterday, briefly; it seemed well-mannered enough).

Ah!!! the usual response we have come to expect from those who are anti-democratic.
I notice that in some reports we had the hard left groups attending such as the so called 'Stand Up to Racism'.

Do they mean him?

What worries me is that that if enough people talk up to the spectre of violent protests then unscrupulous people will simply try to oblige.
The protesters yesterday whatever else you may say about them were almost entirely peaceful: the arrests were by the sound of it drunken hangers on. Protest is good. Whether you agree with it or not.
Errrmm no AOG, if you read my responses correctly you will see that I support Brexiteers right to demonstrate peacefully but I was agreeing with Danny that riots might occur if other fringe groups hijack those- how is that in any way anti-democratic?
ich, I agree with you that peaceful protest is good.
Calico, it is AOG's usual respond to any mention of the hard right.
Thanks Danny, it's like falling down a rabbit hole here sometimes :) x
Sean Yaxley-Lennon supporters, Generation Identity flags and a senior UDA member with terrorism convictions. They're not doing their cause much good.

Yes because it is yet another overused and incorrect label, along with certain others such as Racist etc etc that is attached to anyone who attacks the Left, who stands up for British standards, or is patriotic.

I wondered how long it would be before Tommy Robinson was brought into the argument. Still described as the founder of the EDL which he distanced himself from a long time ago.

/// English Defence League leader and founder Tommy Robinson has left the group, saying he has concerns over the "dangers of far-right extremism". ///

/// And whilst I want to lead the revolution against Islamist ideology, I don't want to lead the revolution against Muslims. ///

I ask you is he wrong to campaign against Islamist ideology?

Did you mean 'Stephen Yaxley-Lennon' (born 27 November 1982), known as Tommy Robinson?
Wiki.
Newsnight had to apologise for calling the flute band a pipe band :-)
