I fervently believe we do - as does Martina Navratilova, Sharon Davies, Gabby Logan and, if she's to be believed, many other sportswomen.

Rachel McKinnon, who won a women's cycling event, is a 6 foot burly bloke who still has a penis, but because he 'identifies' as female is allowed to compete against proper women. How have we managed to get to this farcical situation that blokes masquerading as women can cheat, and we're meant to accept it?

I genuinely find it utterly bonkers, and I feel sorry for the women who train as hard as they can to become as good as they can in their chosen sport, only for a bloke like McKinnon come and steal their opportunity.

Yes.
Absolutely - with the caveat that anyone who supports this is likely to be called transphobic.
There would be no justification for that, prudie. Many many people don't like cheating, deception, lying... no matter who does it.
Yes.

I couldn't compete against my sons or OH. They are stronger than me.

I might be better skilled but I can't compete in anything that involves strength.
No there would be no justification for it at all but it has and will happen. I've even seen it suggested on here in a similar thread some time back.
Rachel McKinnon has said this "“The very idea that we must ‘protect’ cis women’s—or ‘female’—sport from trans women, who are legally female, too, is an irrational fear of trans women, which is the dictionary definition of transphobia.”
Yes definitely
Maybe they need to stop claiming that men are legally women, then. This is the trouble, it is being taken literally now.
She's wrong, Prudie, by the time males realise they're in the wrong body they are usually developed. You can't undo that so they will probably be stronger than girls.

I'm very open minded on how people identify themselves but not when it comes to competition.

It is abundantly clear that McKinnon is, physically, a bloke. If he chooses to wear a frock and call himself a girl's name - fine, I have no real issue with that, but I do have an issue when he cheats a woman out of success.

The thought occurs to me that he may be a very good rider when he's riding against people who have a very obvious physical disadvantage to him, but against male cyclists he may only be average with no hope of being a world champion.

Let's call it what it is - cheating.
Yes, we do.
Imagine a 6' male rugby player declaring he's eligible to play on a womans rugby team.
Doesn't seem fair
personally I don't give a toss about sport male or female
No, I don't myself, but I still think principles and morals are important in any situation.
You reap what you sow.

We need a separate gender fluid section now and let the best one win.

If ever there was bigger waste of keystrokes than woofgang's 'contribution' I have yet to see it. What the hell is the point of posting on a thread like this if all you have to add is that you don't like sport. Utterly pointless.
Errrrrrrrrrrr..........

That's exactly what we need Douglas - the categories would be;

1. Men competing against men.
2. Women competing against women.
3. Men masquerading as women competing against men masquerading as women and vice versa.
This has been going on for years in one form or another ! I remember a row about Women who took male hormone to suppress Menstruation and develop a more muscular body ! That was ruled as illegal !

That's completely different Eddie.

Drug taking has been forbidden for donkey's years and nobody accepts it.

And yet we're required to suspend belief that it is OK for me to compete against women. Well I for one refuse to suspend that belief. Unfortunately that, apparently, makes me transphobic or whatever is the obic or ism of the week.

Really needs to be sorted out, I have yet to meet a real woman with a penis and hope I never do.
And yet among men there are so many fannies.
