and whilst you were doing advanced quantum mechanics ( suitable for 5 y olds) at primary school
the rest of us were doing the old question of how many people do you need in a room before two have the same birthdays
and isnt the answer 6 with a chance of 1 in 2 ?
the first is one - the second is 364/365 different - the third with all three different is 364x363 / 365x 365
and the fraction generated goes down to 1/2 after five or six iterations
FF will know - he teaches A level maff

// The other one was from Carry on Cleo. "Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!" Do they mean you, Peter? //
they certainly think I have it in for them - but I dont, I DON'T
I will mercilessly ridicule stupidity wherever I find it - not only them.
I agree with the poster who says that it is natural for the brain to look for patterns. and there is trouble when it identifies a pattern which is in fact random.
in terms of the fire
what would have happened if St pauls had gone up in flames in 1940? Nothing?
when Under den Linden was flattened ( keine linden etc) they Berliners didnt say - mein gott we haff lost the war
and the frauen kirke in Dresden 1945
My father as a POW doctor attended a burnt German child and the mother ( mutter I suppose ) had a look of resigned acceptance but of course even then Jan 1945 no one knew the war was about to end

Under den linden was the main drag where all the ministries were.
The ministries were flattened in the bombing of Berlin. [sort of like whitehall - there is no point in saying whitehall wasnt bombed cozzitsa street in central london - they must have bombed something else)
The Dolmetsch guide who were guiding the POWs around berlin ( in their allied uniforms, every one was in uniform and they werent lynched) - pointed to the navy ministry and mused
"The archives ended up in London in 1918 - i wonder where they will end up this time."
and the answer is .... mid west america - I saw them referenced a few years ago

Exactly and I can't remember the French or anyone else if it comes to that, giving us any money when York Minister was ravaged by fire, why all this sympathy over their Notre Dame, when the French hate us?
