I think it comes down to the fact that society considers men more sexually aggressive. Which, isn't actually the case. A lot of men are quite prude because society will instantly label them as a pervert or rapist.

If the tables were turned, i do think the man would be put in prison, simply because in society, men are considered more responsible when it comes to who they sleep with, rather than women. That's just my opinion, it may be wrong.
In fact, the first comment on this OP supports that social ideology. We instantly assume the boy would brag to his mates about it and be rather chuffed.
As Spath says, a mixed jury who must have had good reason to find a not guilty verdict.

There must be more info we are not privvy to.
It doesn't seem to be a different law? Has there never been a case of a man not punished because he fairly believed a girl was 16?
These matters are always judged case by case. This man was cleared of similar after he pleaded guilty to sex with a 12 year old girl

Thank, hc, I was sure I have seen similar the other way around.
And of course Bill Wyman has never even been charged even though he had sex with Mandy Smith when she was 13 and he was 47.

Wow, she had a lot to drink, I’m surprised she was able to .....................
"Less than a third of young men prosecuted for rape in England and Wales last year were found guilty"

What sort of "one law for men" did you have in mind?

AOG may have a point here. I wonder if even modern thinking adults might be secretly harbouring thoughts along the lines of "gaan, my son! get it in there" at a teenage boy sowing his oats with a grown woman. I wonder how strong the reactions would be in comparison if the adult was a man.
Nope.
This just clears the way for overtly predatory men to say... not my fault gov I though she was older...

It has nothing to do with different laws for men and women. There was an allegation of sexual activity involving a minor initiated by an adult. It was tried on that basis. No gender bias.

It seems to be a modern snowflake trend to look for things to feign outrage about, rather than actually getting angry at genuine injustice.
You are so right, JF. Sick of hearing 'If it were a man/woman/black/white/take your pick it would be different'.
If it was a different crime, it would be different. I guess so...
My last "it it were a man" post was referring to public reactions not the legal situation.

You are not getting confused with those migrants who enter our country passing themselves off as children? :0)

What as got into you lately, judging by some of your recent answers, it would seem that you have took a turn over to the liberal left?

No. I went school with some chaps, in year 9 they had beards.

The Indian chaps who were at school had beards and back hair. They could have easily passed for 25 whilst the rest of us looked like prepubescents
