Why are we entertaining this moron largely at the taxpayer's expense?

are you saying that the country who was our greatest ally and leader (in the person of General Eisenhower) of the task force, should be denied access to this event because you happen to believe the individual they elected, in your opinion, is a moron?

We were more than happy to invite Americans to our shores when times, indeed, were black.Do you wish to dishonour those young men's sacrifice? At the commeroration of the 75th anniversary of that glorious day in history the Overall Commander of U.S. armed forces has come to thank his heroes who shed their blood in a foreign field.
diddlydo . You are a piece of s... and below contempt.

I would go further and say ALL those protesting are below contempt.

So now we know-------we don't need Trump and all he stands for!(19.30).Just what does he stand for?
As President of the US he is representing the American people and
all those families of the servicemen and women who gave their lives in WW2. You don't have to go down on your knees but a little respect wouldn't go amiss . Whatever your views on Donald Trump just try to spare a thought for all those who gave their lives.

don't you have any relatives that were in the DDay landings diddly? You know someone storming the beaches in northern France with our allies especially the US, fighting their way across the continent to liberate us from Nazi Tyranny? Perhaps you would have preferred that to be growing up with today?
In fairness he isn’t here JUST for the D day commemoration - to which of course he had to be invited and be very welcome as representing the US.
So while I am happy enough for him to be here though I understand why on a personal level he is beyond the pale for many. I think we just have to put to be side his apparent undermining of the NATO alliance, for example, and hope that a lot of the time he doesn’t really mean what he says.
I will be happier when our chief ally reverts to having a normal president again eventually.

diddlydo - As has been pretty forcefully pointed out, it's important not to denigrate the Office because you despise the current incumbent.
President Trump is here to honour the dead from World War Two, and respect for his Office, and the reason for his visit, should be reason enough for self-aggrandising popinjays like Jeremy Corbyn and Vince Cable to swallow their egos and see the bigger picture and have the courtesy to honour dead soldiers who fought for the freedoms they abuse with their petty posturing by declining to attend a state function - which in its turn is a direct snub to the Queen, who is above their small-minded point scoring.

the losses incurred by the allies in the first few hours of landing on the beaches of Normandy was quite simply appalling, both in human cost and material cost. that they managed to create a beachhead in the first few days was by sheer weight of numbers. this simply would not have been possible without the americans.
