Equality will never work whilst people get benefits, whilst i work and don't get any. That's not equality, it's equity.

But that's your social contract, that as one doing well one contributes into the pool to aid those who aren't. That's a separate issue. If the benefit earners got a job then they'd pay in as you do now. If you lose yours and have difficulties you would be entitled to benefits as they are now. Because you are equal.

Yes, and equality, everyone would get the same amount of money and benefits. Because that would be equal.

In reality, we live in a system of equity. Equality has never been a thing, and never will be. An ideology which would never work.. because people aren't equal. There it is, i said it.

On the contrary spath, equal does not mean identical. You'd have equal opportunity, but need not achieve the same result. Equal right to the same benefits when in the same situation, equal rights to chose between differently paid jobs that each are capable of doing.

Quite so.
I suspect even Margaret Hodge hadn’t even given it proper thought when she spoke out.
By “equality” (which DOES mean “being the same”) she meant “treating people the same regardless of background etc. That probably comes closer to “equity”
