Yes we know that ag, but this thread is all about the role of the Parole board and not the sentencing by the judge.

do we need a Parole board?...YES under our present system and yes, we would all avoid being placed in the situation that the parole board finds themselves......a thankless task.

But a document about his case claimed he had changed "considerably" over his 45 years in custody and that he had developed "self-control" - as well as "considerable understanding of the problems that he has had and what caused them".... says in effect he was a victim of past experience

The bottom line is....if the Parole board is correct, then no harm will be done, but if they are wrong, then further innocent people may die.

Not surprising to note the complaints of a lack of transparency in terms of decision making.

There is another thread where a woman drowned her 23 months old twins and she is said to be mentally unstable. It's now not murder but manslaughter. I wonder if that man had done the same thing today to those three children would he too have been called mentally ill?.

Andres, you can't make a comparison between these cases.

In the female's case, it was accepted by her husband and Prosecution that she was mentally incapacitated.

In this case he would have had to have his case supported and accepted by professionals if he had claimed diminished responsibility.

Just wondering because so many cases these days seem to put forward the mental health aspect of the murderer. There never seemed to be so many 50 years ago.

I don't think he should be let out. There is no excuse for what he did.

Andres, I'm not sure in law when certain defences were enacted.

However, if a Defendant considers that making a plea is a way out of a serious crime then they are kidding themselves.

Mental Health issues are not to be dismissed lightly but experts in their field will put together extensive reports to guide proceedings.

Someone who committed such crimes should have been strung up.

Since the liberal hand wringers won't allow that then these people should be locked up for life, no release ever for whatever reasons.

The Parole board should never get to look at such cases.

He took 3 innocent childrens lifes and then strung their bodies on the railings. Utter scum, and I dont get why some thing he should be out and have sympathy for him. Are the three children going to be resurrected? No they are not.
