It's Sudan not South Sudan. Urgent question asked in the House of Commons this morning. https://www.parliament.uk/business/news/2019/june/urgent-question-as-crisis-in-sudan-intensifies/

The middle east is just a *** mess.

I jsut think, if you compare the Media Coverage over Notre Dam, in a day everyone was hooting about it.

4 days into the Sudan massacre and pfft, pretty much, nothing.
Question Author
How many lives were lost in Notre Dam? How many lives have been lost in Sudan?

Shows the medias priorities, and to be honest, it makes me sick to my stomach.
So it is Sudan, not Southern Sudan, thanks Danny.

"In April of this year, the Sudanese army announced that it had removed President Omar al-Bashir from power following months of protests against him. He had been in power since 1989.

Many of the anti-Bashir protesters have continued to demonstrate against the new military government and talks between pro-democracy groups and the government have stalled. Last week, security forces opened fire on a group of protesters in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum."

"Following up on his question, Sir Henry Bellingham noted that the "situation has become quite horrendous"."
spath, just a point of order. Sudan isn't in the Middle East. It's in Africa - and it's a cesspit.
The Sudan is forever at war with somebody, mainly Southern Sudan which it gave independence in 2011. If we posted on here everytime they were fighting we'd be posting every day.
Question Author
It's just so horrendous what is going on :'(
seems they have been at it a long
Question Author
4 days this has been going on. 4 day their military has been killing people in the streets, leaving bodies to rot out side of classrooms. It's a display of inhumanity.
in 1994, the situation in Rwanda was a level of horrendous that has rarely been seen before or since. in 100 days 800000 were murdered. then, as now, we were powerless observers
Question Author
"then, as now, we were powerless observers"
How awful :(
Who or what is "sudan"?
pick a civil war around the world, not just sudan

This thread is about something quite serious.

Does a capital S make that much difference you feel a whole answer should be dedicated to that mistake?
Spath similar has been going on for years never mind days. I am amazed you seem to have become aware of it only now.
Also, read Fender's link, if it's not them it's someone else.
The situation is complex with various factions and we don't have a magic wand to put all right. I've see articles on it so it can't be that blacked out. https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/48622867 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-48511226
what is sudan
country below egypt

they booted us ( and the Egyptians who were co governing ) out in 1956. So why are we agonising about the blood letting in Sudan ?

I liked - there is a black out in Sudan - because the name is related to aswad/sudra , black in arabic.

terrible place - I wouldnt go there if I were you.
Khartum Museum - the museum of 5 civilisations - Kush, Meroe, Nubia and 2 others. I still wouldnt go there

Khartoum is basically the Cornishe ( bank fo the Nile ) and slums for a few million people

uugh
Apart from the Mad Mardi who doesn't like it up e'm I am sure, since the Brits were kicked out of that rich and prosperous land the people of Sudan have been left with a culture of great Education and Civility towards each other. If they wish to slaughter each other willy nilly I am sure they know what they are doing and do not need any help or outside help from countries less civilised than themselves. You, Spath, praised the virtues of the United Nations Governance on another recent thread whilst others think it is a toothless Tiger.
Rather than ask what is to be done from us. Give the UN a bell and ask what their 'Peace' keepers are doing. I know quite a few are soaking up the rays on the Green Line in Cyprus.

Let's be honest, who gives a monkeys?
