I think this story would lose staying power but for the yoga pose photos. This is what happens when two entitled worlds collide. She's a wee princess who's never been denied and he's a very important gardener with dodgy societal skills.

Some discussion on the end of the original thread today.

Scary amount due to costs isn't it?

I noticed after i posted, mamya. It had dropped off all the 'current' pages.
I believe he has a 'go fund me' appeal. Don't know how that's going.
Judge Judy wouldn't like it.
Doesn't sit easy at all, I agree.

Also agree re insurance.
His and her's expenses !.
No it doesn't sit right with me either. Hope his go fund me appeal manages to raise enough money to cover it, this may possibly break him financially.
The GoFundMe page to help with the legal fees has already surpassed the expected costs:

£4,300 for the compensation, payable in 14 days.

£10,000 to cover the pedestrian’s legal fees, payable in 21 days (this may increase when the final cost award is declared as she is seeking around £100,000 in costs – but £10,000 was the amount indicated by the judge).

£7,000 to cover Robert Hazeldean’s own legal fees.

If Mr Hazeldean had been insured, the claimant’s legal costs would have been limited to £6,690.

I'm glad to hear that, ABerrant.
The stupid *** that caused the accident is trying to get 100K for her legal costs on top of compensation.

Too bad he didn't go straight to the lawyers.

Never hesitate to get immediate legal advice in these situations.
When the rules are, blame the victim, this sort of thing occurs.
The law needs fixing. Society in general too.
Who buys insurance in case someone walks into the road while they’re cycling through a busy city?
I’m not sure I like the judge’s remark about the woman’s attractiveness. What has her looks got to do with the facts about the case?
The scar and possible reduced attractive appearance was possibly part of the injury claim ?

Anyone with a house, Clover. I'm suggesting this might happen more often.
I have a house. I’m planning on cycling more often. When I phone the insurance company what kind of insurance should I ask for?

I'd go for fully comp, if I rode a bike.

I used to help people with disabilities to choose powered scooters and wheelchairs for use outside their homes. I would ALWAYS advise taking out at least third party insurance.
Some years ago I hit a child while I was cycling and she stepped into the road in front of me. I think I was more shaken than she was, but I was told off by her sister, who couldn’t have been older than 9.
Thankfully the claim culture hadn't started then.
Rarely am I on the cyclists side, but this judgement is crazy.

So anyone can just walk in the road without looking and then get compo.

This is going to get all those scammers going isnt it. Idiotic judgement.
she stepped into the road, end of, if he'd been a bus she'd be brown bread, radio rental decision.
just imagine the furore

If heavens forbid this gentleman had been using
A Boris Bike

oh the irony
Living in Germany many years ago cycle insirance was normal, not sure about mandatory, even for the children, anyone using the roads should be insured against grabbing idiots like this woman. This decision seesms to set a precedent for phone users to be able to carry on regardless, everyone else is responsible for their stupidity.
