That's a fraction of 1% of the British Forces.. The foundations laid by the windrush generation include yardie gangs, Broadwater Farm estate riots and the murder of PC Keith Blakelock. Since then we've had muggings, knife crime and acid attacks. The majority of these were carried out by descendants of the WRG, which brought the much needed stop and search. The memorial will be a monument to criminality.

Well the French have put a few up in Normandy, aog. Something to do with that day in June 1944 when we and the Americans helped to liberate them.

That analogy is absolutely shameful.

Altruism wasn’t the reason the West Indians came here. They came in the hope of improving their lot in life. Their journey was about them – not us - and that doesn't warrant a monument. More virtue signalling.

Don't any of you remember the problems that the big influx of single ,young black men brought with them? The drugs ,alcohol and prostitution gangs.Then when the families started coming over there was the Rachman housing scandal where often three generations of the immigrant families were crammed into miserable housing conditions. The white lads forming gangs and hunting down the black lads. Notting Hill riots . The ghettos that were created.

Come on now You know the script. We are to tear down all monuments celebrating British(and particularly English) history, and important events, and replace them with...………….anything but.

I can see a number of very emotional comments regarding the memorial and what it signifies. However, the fact remains, African Caribbean peoples have in many cases, been treated poorly and disrespectfully, in the England. Yes, there have been issues with crime and muggings, and sadly we also had Police brutality. We must also look back and acknowledge that many Irish people were also treated poorly and in reality, were responsible for a mass of building and construction throughout the UK (something the PM may have overlooked). However, I can’t seem to locate a memorial, that displays a poor Irish man with a shovel over his shoulder!

Back to the point in question; the monument is crass and at £1,000,000, is money that could go to helping communities in some way.
