Four shootings ,two fatal, since Friday in London. Looks like gun crime is playing catch up with knife crime. Not confined to one area. Anywhere and everywhere.

pp --I recall in the 50s being able to go out and leave the door unlocked. No graffiti adorning the town. No vandalism. Respect for older people, policemen, teachers . Petty thefts usually carried out by people known to the police. No dropping litter on the pavements. No smoking on the lower decks of buses. No being drunk in the streets or you would be taken off to...

The pension for serving officers has been substantially downgraded since Thatcher. I’ve no doubt you have earned every penny you receive dannyk13
I was informed of this by my bro-in-law he did 30years and left as chief inspector with a very lucrative pension and lump sum. Not my reasoning, his information.

ridiculous points still - - no cap on upwards limit you lucky lucky senior coppers !
employee cont 14% - which means that the employer cont ( er us) is another 14%
( the legal lower limit is -- - 2% and the average is around 4% )
commutation rules ( a bit technical ) one for 12 - larger lump sum is a bad deal ( cross over point) if you survive retirement for more than 12 years
would I like to be in such a pension scheme? oh yes please !

and now virtually none are ( Mr Brown's pension steal 1997)
even the police pension is career average ( now ) and still an excellent deal. a relative has just started and I have been particular that they maximise their employment pension. - - much much better than anything else available even tho prone to the multiplicator
(but I used to be a union pension employee adviser for another industry)
sorry sorry very technical for the usual "foo-brexit will be paradise" thread

hey hold it - - poor belgians ! 1914
and remember - was it not in Belgium that the two (US) marines heard the Glock being cocked in the bog ( no no really) on the train
and the two said amongst themselves - no one can march out of the bog wivva AK 47 in shooting position, so if we are gonna take him, now is the time to do it?
so they did ! - one was later stabbed in a californian bar in case you think it all ends happily

"When are the powers that be going to admit that, the Grooming gangs, the Black on Black knife crimes, the Moped robbers and the modern day slavers, are all linked to the introduction of mass immigration of alien cultures into this country?"
What you say is of course going on. However, crime has always happened... Murder, rape, theft. These were all more than common place in an area known as Soho in the 1800's... Ironically before the 'Moped' was invented and before "black on black" crime was heard of. Talk about modern day slavers.. how about actual slavers?
When will you realise, crime has nothing to do with immigration? Crime has, and always will be rife in city's where many people live in close proximity.
Just do a bit of research on what London was like 100, 200 years ago. Crime was much worse. The streets were much filthier.
Nothing to do with immigrants.

Out comes the history books once again, we do no longer live in the 1800s, crime has increased in modern day England, due entirely to the increase in immigration, just has the shortage of housing, schools and the demise of the NHS, and don't come up with the old chestnut yes but what about the foreign doctors and nurses etc?
I admit that we are indebted to those, but we are not indebted to the mass importation of the foreign criminal gangs and killers that we have welcomed into our once more peaceful and law abiding country.
But if you still want to venture back into the 1800s or even into the 20th century, we knew what tio do with murderers back then, yes we removed them permanently from society.
Take the Jack the Ripper Murders in London, yes whoever he was he murdered a few women, but his crimes have gone down in history, or even Dr Crippen (who incidentally happened to be American) and who murdered his wife, that type of crime would not even reach the headlines these days of daily killings on our streets.

From the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) for the year ending December 2018 released in April this year:
"Over recent decades we have seen continued falls in overall levels of crime but in the last year there has been no significant change. However, it is important to look at individual crime types as the total figure hides variation both within and across crime types. We have seen a rise in overall theft but a mixed picture in different types of offences involving theft. There are also differences in the lower-volume but higher-harm types of violence, with increases in homicide and offences involving knives and sharp instruments but decreases in offences involving firearms."
How does, "Over recent decades we have seen continued falls in overall levels of crime but in the last year there has been no significant change." tie in with your claim of INCREASED crime?

Statistics,statistics,statistics!!
All I can say is that whereas in the 50s/60s when a murder happened it would be talked about for ages. They were few and far between.
Today there are so many murders that we are all becoming apathetic and dismissive of them. Just another one to add to the statistics.

// Sorry if i believe that over someone saying.. "No, dis is how it wuz".//
yes well Andres is showing something called 'recall bias' - or dat how I recall it
[like you recall queens like ELizabeth II sooner than the Empress Matilda ( 1100s)]
actually in 1970 - there were 570 mairders say 600
200 the perp committed suicide
200 the perp was found unfit to plead and or mad under the then legislation
and the last 200 had to be solved - with the majority by someone the vic knew (*)
last year it was around 650 - the peak was 1000 around the troubles in Ireland even if they werent counted
so......statistics win !
(*)1973 I had to write an exam in Criminology and that was one of the essays. I passed

// even into the 20th century, we knew what to do with murderers back then, yes we removed them permanently from society. // from the King of non sequiturs
zeroing murderers will only work if they are doing more than one ( = serial murderers) - if they are a one-off then the murder rate will not be affected ( which it wasnt)
OK perhaps not a non-sequitur
perhaps a conclusio falsy instead
