As I type two more ministers, David Mundell and Claire Perry, and Leader of the House Mel Stride, have stepped down from Cabinet roles, presumably because they were pushed -- joining a long list of ministers to have followed Theresa May out today.

A brutal purge, not just of Remain-supporting ministers, but also of anyone who had the temerity to back Hunt rather than Johnson in the Leadership election. Fox out. Mordaunt gone. Two of the strongest Leave supporters you could find right there.

One could presumably forgive Johnson for wanting Hammond, etc, gone -- and even if Johnson wanted to keep him Hammond didn't want to stay -- but a clearout of this scale seems to be a dangerous way to start. The Prime Minister can only govern with consent, and with such a wafer-thin majority (that anyway relies on another party!), creating so many enemies is at the very least a courageous decision.

To the victor, the spoils of war etc. In the medical circle when a professor is appointed, he brings in his own entourage and the same with a new football manager. But I have some sympathy with your thoughts Jim, Boris is stacking up a pile of enemies should they want to destabilise his Government.

Togo; //Let's see how clever they are at "negotiating" when they don't know what is being proposed before we do.

Quite! Throughout the May era I have always pictured the Eurocrats in Brussels laid back in their chairs, feet on desks while sipping a glass of (tax-payer funded) red wine, while watching events unfurling on British TV & knowing exactly what plans are being made in Westminster .
From now on, I think the posture may be more, edge of seat, wondering what's going on & what's coming next.
Boris's job is to get us out of the EU by October 31st, better for him to surround himself with those in the same frame of mind, than have a cabinet squabbling amongst themselves.
AOG yes i do agree. Part of me is boarding the *** boris bus but the other part of me is trying to get behind the chap.

I'm either.. Oh god boris.. Or Actually, Cmon champ lets see what you've got!

Either way.. Im sure we won't all start dying.. it'll never be that bad.
He's strong willed and i think he has good leadership qualities.. even if he is a tad chimpish.
Well people will speak at upcoming by election.
We’re even more of a laughing stock in America than we were during May’s Brexit mess.
Especially now that their idiot president has being saying that we call Johnson “...Britain Trump...and that’s a good thing.”
No we don’t, and it’s a terrible thing.
Rishi Sunak the new chief secretary to the treasury speaking to Sky News.

//He said that it was important that “we do prepare for conviction, we need to show resolute to the Europeans that we are willing to walk away”.
“If we do end up leaving without a deal, there’s £39 billion that is a payment as part of that deal that we were going to hand over to the Europeans that we will obviously not just hand over.
“As they’ve said famously ‘nothing is agreed until everything is agreed’. They can’t just cherry-pick the money they need and ignore the rest of the deal that we want. So that also gives us quite a lot of extra firepower that we can deploy.”

Is the government now serious about leaving the EU on No Deal, WTO terms?//

Go get em Floyd. :))

so the cabinet is being topped up with people who were too incompetent (or bent) even for May? What could go wrong?
cloverjo; //We’re even more of a laughing stock in America than we were during May’s Brexit mess.//

I think you are confusing "America" with the American media, which almost universally displays it's hatred of Trump on a daily basis because he has wisely declared war on them and they are paying a very high price for it. The viewing figures for CNN in the US are now at rock-bottom.
Jno, if you were honest you’d concede that the ‘bent’ people are those determined to thwart the result of a democratic vote - and that includes Mrs May.
Guardian headlines:

/// Boris Johnson chairs first cabinet as critics say party now 'fully taken over by hard right' – live news ///

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2019/jul/25/boris-johnson-new-cabinet-prime-minister-chairs-first-cabinet-as-critics-say-party-now-fully-taken-over-by-hard-right-live-news

Taken over by the Far-Right?????

Agree or disagree?
Who are these ‘critics’?
Just a typical Guardian headline. Do they actually know what hard right actually is!
//Corbyn says Johnson has “thrown together a hard-right cabinet”.//

Better than a Marxist bunch of Trots. Does Corbyn know what real 'hard right' means?
Snap NellieMay. Crossed post. :-)
Oh Corbyn said it. That figures. Idiot man.
Judging by the reaction of certain ABers and the liberal MSM it looks like its a good choice.

Carry on BoJo, drain the swamp and get the job done.

And Priti, get some law and order back on our streets. Proper sentencing - use better min sentencing so soft judges can't override proper justice.
Also anti-Brexit Ex Tory Nick Boles

/// Boris Johnson’s new cabinet is proof that the Conservative party has “been fully taken over by the hard right,” former Tory MP Nick Boles says. ///

^^ He must not have listened to Bojo's speech about inclusion. Perhaps this guy is deaf as well as dumb
In April 2019 Boles had no qualms about jumping ship and standing as an Independent. He has the brass to change his allegiance and criticise others who also choose to do so. Hypocrisy or what?

//Mr Boles also turned his fire on leading former Remainers Nicky Morgan and Amber Rudd – now happy to serve Mr Johnson – who were “neutered captives”//
