Oh I see!!! it is now all part of destroying the myth that Muslim women are not really oppressed and constantly being told what to do.

Errr, I did know that. Just my little finger wag at the Mail bashers. I see that Victoria Pendleton is riding in the race...…...Does anyone know her religion? Or Katie Walsh's or Hollie Doyle's or Hayley Turner's? Or any of the hundreds of other women who work in the racing industry very successfully? If not why not? Or don't you care. They will be making a film about it next.

I guess any "firsts" are newsworthy in a way. Good for her anyway. Although... it days she hadn't been on a racehorse until April, but she has been riding from 10, so it isn't all that remarkable.

I think that is a myth actually.

I am sure there is a section of Muslim womanhood that is oppressed and told what to do - but that applies to womanhood everywhere on the world

To our eternal shame as men, that is the lot of some women, purely on the basis of their gender.

There is very little difference in sex with equestrianism anyway, which is why they usually compete together. If anything, females are better built for it, but don't necessarily get the same chances in jobs.

It's a charity dealing with an exclusively female function, hence the lady riders. Though i have to add that, looking at the line up of pilots, i wouldn't say they are all of equal experience. Some have been brought up around horses or have worked with them for years. Others, like the young lady in question, have been riding for only a short time. And at least one is there only to promote herself. In my most humble opinion, of course.
