This isn't simply a crime of omission, it's downright fake news they are responsible for & is what some of us on AB have been saying for a long time;

A well worded apology in the letter from Dominic Groves.
From the number of BBC links that mikey used to post on here, I don't imagine a single ABer would believe them to be unbiased. They are human.
On that occasion, they happened to be right, though. If the Tories were pro-Brexit we would have left by now. Some reporting is purely just luck.
I doubt that the chart fooled anyone. The numbers are there.

The two main parties were and still are split since ra eturn of sovereignty in return for a period of reduced economy was valued and unvalued cross party. The official stance being of secondary importance. For sure the Tories seem mainly for leave and Labour for continued EU control, but it's not 100% in either case.
A RETURN...
As typed !!!!!
The mother of all non stories. At the EU elections it’s quite possible that most of the people who voted Tory were actually not Brexiters.
We’ll never know.
But the main point is: a broadcaster which castigates itself for bias is a bit of an amateur when it comes to series news agenda management.

ichi; The BBC doesn't "castigate" itself, it's a feeble apology dragged out of it after several dismissed attempts by a lone individual who finally began a court action.
The BBC has not admitted it is biased in that letter. It has admitted it made a mistake.
And it was a mistake that is easy to make. The Conservative Party is split down the middle on pro or anti brexit. It did not publish a manifesto for the EU Elections because it couldn’t find any wording that it could agree on.
A YouGov poll shortly before the election found that 37% of voters thought the Conservatives were an anti-Brexit Party.

As to the offending graphic, there are problems with it. It tried to over simplify a complex picture. Both the Conservatives and Labour have MPs that have opposing views, some are pro brexit, some are anti Brexit. You cannot safely lump them in the pro brexit bar in the graph, and you cannot put them in the anti-Brexit category either. Rightly, they did not assign them to a side, but the resulting graph was unclear. Rather that add clarity to the story of how people voted, it added more confusion.
I’d regard that apology as unnecessary castigating .
The BBC has to be neutral and appear neutral hence these “apologies” some of which are valid and while I don’t say this one was without foundation it was, as Gromit explains, a potentially misleading error.
Not the gross bias you get from websites and broadcasters who really do seem to distort news for their own, or their sponsors, benefit.
The BBC, as is most MSM, is very left leaning so it is obvious that any reporting will be in line with that leaning.

I have found that if you ratchet down by 50% you might be getting nearer the truth but TBH the BBC isn’t my main news sauce. I tend to look at MSM and non and see who is screaming the least.
Cassa,
Membership of the EU does not follow Party lines. At the time of the Referendum, more Tory MPs were supporting Remaining, than of Leaving.

Part of the reason we did not leave on the 31st March was because Pro Remain Conservatives rejected the deal

The left is anti Europe. All Labour’s socialist stalwarts, Tony Benn, Peter Shore, Bill Cash, Dennis Skinner, Jeremy Corbyn et al, are, and always have been anti EU. Corbyn voted against ratifying the Lisbon Treaty.

To wrongly suggest that this error was deliberate because the BBC is leftist (it isn’t) doesn’t even make sense.

The BBC, rather than being left (like those commies you have mentioned Gromit) is more Globalist Metropolitan liberal elite as is much of the MSM. And in that regard they are biased.
Heah, lets all start trusting Brietbart eh? FGS.
Just as an aside, it is amusing how the word ‘elite’ is now used as an insult in some quarters.

Zacs' usual Pavlovian, imbecilic comment ! are you suggesting the letter is a forgery?
// A summary of the complaint, and our decision to uphold it will be published on the bbc.co.uk complaints website. //

Where is is noticeable by its absence.

Gromit; The reason for that - according to Zacs-Master- is of course that everything reported on Breitbart is a total fabrication & yet he has never been able to substantiate this, not once.
He also believes in the total impartiality of the FT !
Khandro,

I’m guessing your browser doesn’t use the NewsGuard plug-in...

I’m suggesting that you criticising one media source being biased when your favourite sources are Britebart and Guido Fawkes is extremely hypocritical.
