NICOLA STURGEON has been going on and on and on ,about Scottish Independence,if successful then she wants to join the European Union,
Which means SCOTLAND is ruled by Brussels,
Where is the independence?

Rowanwitch,I would have to disagree with you on one point,tourism in Scotland is booming,if you could see Edinburgh especially June July and August,the people of Edinburgh move out to make way for the tourists.

Independence? You couldn't handle Independence! She keeps banging on about it to extract more cash & benefits from the English taxpayer. Outside the Union Scotland would be like Greece without the sunshine.

Not enough to support an economy though. Scottish tourism is variable too. Fringe festival, the heather season and hogmanay mostly. Apart from that its coach tours mostly low spenders. Without a big natural resource income I doubt they could manage to maintain their current level of social support

I’d have to disagree there. There are many hundreds of holiday cottages, some pretty luxurious together with some very up market hotels which all bring lots of money into the economy. There’s also the wedding market. Lots of facts and figures here:

I always find it wryly amusing when the Scots on AB wish for independence from England, and then they go remarkably silent when they're confronted with:

1. Being independent of England but not of the EU is not independence.
2. Why would they believe they would be granted automatic entry to the EU? Such arrogance.
3. Without England's largesse they would fail the EU's entry requirements.
4. Without England's largesse they can kiss goodbye to free prescriptions, free university education and free anything else our munificence allows the Scottish Government to provide them with.

They are a drain - such a small population generating such a large and disproportionate amount of the deficit.

Personally I'd happily see them go - perhaps the wheelbarrow loads of cash we send them can then be spent on the rest of the union.

I suspect those who champion independence from the Union are not especially smitten with Europe but rather consumed with hatred for the English. In effect they’re happy to cut off their nose to spite their face. Smart!

It's been pointed out many times.

The aim is to split from the rest of us in the UK. The SNP have no qualms about being dependent, or even controlled by anyone else, such as the EU; no matter what issues it brings Scotland.

It's clearly an anti-UK and IMO specifically anti-English attitude that dominates their aims; even if it is in denial and refuses to admit it. Rather sad really to see one of the family of nations or at least their partisan main political party, feeling like that.

The SNP attracts the feeble-minded and chronically impaired, sadly able to function at the most basic level come polling days thereby returning the sizable results needed to keep the roasters in drams 'n' bannocks for another term.

Contrary to propaganda this is not the land of milk and honey but instead one of rushed, headline grabbing projects (see Queensferry Crossing 'snagging', Prestwick Spaceport, Ferguson Marine and on and on), a failed police system foisted on us by a nutter and born again teetotaller and a home for any and all huddled masses looking for an easy ride at the expense of the locals.

The First Miniature is in the latter stages of being found out and will soon be returning to life in the divorce courts leaving the big chair to be occupied by, well, who knows what but it won't be a great thinker that's for sure.

I've always delighted in her "I want independence" mantra, but she's never responded when the realities of what independence will mean when the money dries-up are posed.
