//The yearbook picture, obtained by Time Magazine, shows a 29-year-old Mr Trudeau wearing a turban and skin-darkening make-up on his face, neck and hands for an Arabian Nights-themed costume party at the West Point Grey Academy in Vancouver.
The prime minister, who launched his re-election campaign just a week ago, said he should have known better.//

More politically correct nonsense. What next? World class opera singers apologising for ‘White-facing’ for the role of Madame Butterfly?

These ridiculous, humourless, pathetic apologists thrive on gloom. They’re taking the fun out of life - and for fear of criticism, society is allowing them to.

well I hope you didn't get too much stick from the Green party.
Show us a picture, Bigbad, lol.
The thing is, Naomi, that Justine would hound her opponents to the ends of the earth were the black on the other face.
This is a classic case of live by the sword, die by the sword.
Never heard of brown face before Justine was caught in black face, lol.
I bet he does regret it!
Fancy dress is the whole get-up that creates the image.

You think someone going as a cat will refuse to have whiskers drawn on their face because it isn't a garment ?
I absolutely knew this would have some support on AB when I heard it on the news (while feeling quietly guilty for sending my daughter dressed as Pocohontas at a Disney themed birthday party when she was about 8).
So to be correct - one can dress up in the clothes, it's the skin colouring that's the issue? OK
I remember most years we went on holiday to a YMCA Hotel in Barry called Glan-y-mor (Granny More).
We went for two weeks. First week was a fancy dress night. Parents and kids all participated.
My dad blacked up as a Zulu warrior with wig, spear and leopard skin wrapped round him.
He covered himself from head to foot in black grease paint. Lol
He spent the following week walking round S.Wales like a black and white minstrel. He couldn't get the stuff off.

I bet he headed for the Black Mountains! ;-)
No ag. He just wore a miner's helmet and carried a davy lamp. :-)
Those Japanese Geisha girls have a lot to answer for.
;-)
June-O, at, at 1053, has supplied the motivation behind this "furor" quite succinctly...Pure unadulterated political mud-slinging; it happens in many countries during an election period.
snowflake moonbats, recreational outrage... like an insidious disease.
im offended for the offended, What...
Your last para. in the thread says it all naomi - very well put. God knows why he felt the need to apologise, a victim of modern society I guess !
Some of you are ignoring the fact that this incident came to light during a pre-election period in Canada, and we all know that all is fair in love, war, and politics. Here is an article from one of their newspapers: https://canoe.com/opinion/columnists/gunter-by-his-own-standards-trudeau-doesnt-deserve-a-free-pass/wcm/a4d94460-193c-47f1-8432-cfa62cc082d2
Give him a break he has only done it 3 times.......up to now.....and had no idea that he was going to be a luvvie poster boy. Haha.

I’ve never understood why ‘blacking up’ is perceived to be an insult. People come in a variety of shades – and that cannot and should not be denied. Is a black skin something to be ashamed of? Something to be hidden and denied? I think not – and I sincerely hope not - but since attempting to portray it upsets some so much, clearly they think differently. Perhaps they haven’t thought it through adequately.
These guys are still going, though:

I guess that it doesn't matter if we find blackface acceptable or not. It's not white folk that are going to be offended.

Strangely enough it often is. Plenty of people take offence on behalf of others ..... whether those others want them to or not.
Well, from this clip it seems that Trudeau thinks that he should apologize Now is he sorry that he engaged in these activities or because in came to light? (I didn't listen to the whole thing.): http://www.cpac.ca/en/programs/leaders-tour/episodes/66073509
