I heard of an Army Officer who was transferred to a new camp and visiting the Officers Mess noticed that a deep scratch mark had been made at about 7" from the edge of the highly polished bar .Upon enquiries, about what appeared to be an act of vandalism, he was informed that it was to indicate the biggest barrel length amongst the officers weapons.
