The Police know what they are doing, there will be a reason why they have released the details in this particular case. It may be that the driver purposefully aimed at the Policeman in an attempt to injure or kill him.

We don't need to know
Let's hope they get him very soon.
A violent culture just like the US.
Well to say, having a look to kill, he's certainly got one.
You cannot tell a killer just by looking at his face. Would that it were so easy.
This is an exceptional case.
Because the victim is a Police Officer.
If it was you or me, there would be nowt done.
Last time I called the cops, they responded 50 hours later.
When you had need to contact the police, was it the result of a hit-and-run that left the victim in a coma?

As you received contact (albeit it just after two days) that was "nowt" was it?

I think it more than likely you would have received a faster response in relation to a hit-and-run.
I called the cops on May 10th this year to report a crime of violence against me. I'm still waiting to hear back.
What a stupid remark by Gromit.
ClarionSt - you can't have been too concerned or you could have made further enquiries, and if what you allege is correct why didn't you make an official complaint about neglect of duty.
I've asked about it on a few occasions. Why would they bother to investigate themselves if they cant investigate for the public?
What do you mean "If what I allege is correct"? I have a crime reference number. It's you that's making assumptions. Sanctimony abounds!
I disagree that it should be 'standard practice' to name suspects, while they are technically not guilty. Although I assume they have good reasons on this occasion and no doubt are very sure.
10CST, for all you know, yours may not be an isolated incident. Unless folk like you, complain, those cases may be put aside and forgotten about.

Those who investigate complaints can't do so if you can't be bothered to tell them about it can they?

When the police are appealing to the public, for any information that will help them to track down the suspect, surely it must be a good thing, if they can give out as much information as possible in their quest to apprehend the suspect,
In this case it has proven to be so, since this suspect has now been arrested.
Yes all suspects should be named as long as its made clear they are 'suspects', which does not denote guilt. Thankfully the suspect has now been arrested and no doubt now suffering from a 'mental' illness or perhaps he had a terrible childhood. Banging them up for years with free meals healthcare and the opportunity to do a degree free of charge is not the answer and certainly not a deterrent.
I saw one a while back that said the suspect was highly dangerous and should in no way be approached.
Complete with pixelated picture.
I thought 'give us a sporting chance here, meet us halfway'.
They must have been pretty sure he was the driver. It's a bit dangerous naming every suspect. Even if they are then proved innocent, mud sticks!

It did not stop them, when it came to naming some celebrity paedophile suspects.
