Why are they calling it a Government of National Unity when it's aim is to frustrate Brexit and overthrow the decision of the 17 million + who voted Leave. Where's the national unity in that?
Yes I agree that while I’d support a temporary government, “unity” is a long way off.
“Government of national unity” tends to get used when unlikely factions get together to firm a coalition government.
An election is not what the opposition wants for the same reasons stated countless times.
As for the government why did they not try to get an election when Johnson took office and effectively the Tory hard right in government? If he is big on popular mandates he should have done it then.
I’d have thought in any case the PM would not want the distraction of an election in the middle of EU negotiations :-)
Hold and win an election, AND get a deal with the EU AND all by Oct 31?
You can see why people are sceptical ...
I see, well the last thing it would be is a "unity" government, try a - bunch of self serving Quislings trying to stop the will of the people - Government. Then add a dash of "we'll never forgive you" - cheers Greta - and you'll be getting near the ball park.
these people have a habit of using titles that are the opposite of what they actually do. Eg Lib nondems, No change UK, etc. So if they are using words like "Unity" I'm already thinking the opposite.
He may be thinking of trying to conserve the pledge that his predecessor's predecessor made in the pamphlet that cost taxpayers £9m to produce and distribute prior to the referendum (under the section headed "A once in a generation decision").
danny; "At a meeting yesterday the anti-government faction decided not to go for a VONC yet. Afraid of losing it ? " - worse they are afraid of winning it!
