Personally it wouldn’t bother me doing this if it would cut down on the time wasters who allegedly cost the NHS £216 million a year with missed appointments who just don’t bother turning up, the one thing that is a concern is the people who can’t afford this, would it not be better to charge those who don’t have a good excuse for missing an appointment, although how that could be policed , I’m not sure

There' all sorts of good reasons why people miss appointments, in fact does anyone's appointment book run smoothly? in saying that if you have someone who you know misses doctors appointments on a regular basis, for no good reason, then a charge would be in order for a given time, and especially for the first attended one, prior to the missed ones. I think that...

Pixie if there could be two BA you’d have the other one, whilst I said in my OP it wouldn’t bother me then having read different reasons to not pay, I sit on the fence about it, I’m lucky because I rarely visit my doctors and disliked vehemently time wasters who go for things such as the common cold spreading their germs to everyone in there where paracetamols would help, but like everyone else I’ve paid full NI for 40 years, how do we stop the time wasting and cost? I really don’t know as someone’s already said, they’d just go to A&E which is already stretched ,anyway, the walk in centres were supposed to alleviate the pressures on our wonderful NHS, somehow I don’t think they’ve done that
How would you get it back if the doctor misses it though, because he/she is running late?
Thanks bobbi x
I wouldn't be able to buy my shoes.
Get them today... before they are sold out :-)

Teacake, hurry coz when they’re gone, they’re gone :0/
Pixie...they have never been late. We have a self sign in system and on one visit I was in, seen the doctor and out before my appointment was even due.
Maybe, ummm... but many are x
Yes...I find the nurses often are but hey, you can't predict what will happen with a patient.
OMG I got best answer Yippppppe. But I still got a dilemma, if I don't buy new shoes, I won't be able to walk to the doctors, if I buy new shoes, I won't be able to pay the doctors. I'm at the end of my tether. :0(
I wouldn't mind paying it, but I don't think it's fair at all.
Isn't it about £8.90 for a prescription too? For one item. People will end up just not going. Charge for someone who has missed two appointments without notice, maybe.
Pixie, stop nicking my idea :0)
this would affect the poorest i suspect, i would rather we collected the money owed by health tourists, which if the news is anything to go by amounts to many many millions.
Lets give a good example of a missed appointment. You have a druggie being treated, he as an appointment Monday morning at 9.30am. He decides to go on a bender Sunday night, and he's still sleeping it off at 1.00pm. Snoooozzzz :0)
Sorry... didn't realise :-) x
Yes, charge people not paying taxes here, naturally, or timewasters. But waiting until a problem is more severe, by putting people off, will cost more in the end.
Health tourists?

You need a NI number to receive healthcare in the UK.

Most foreign people need insurance or to pay for their healthcare treatment.

The ideology that people come here and instantly get free healthcare simply isn't true.
Totally agree with emmie at 11:46.
Yes, Pixie, but they do a prepayment card for people on long term meds which makes it considerably cheaper. So cheap in fact that I don't know how they can justify charging what they do.
It costs £10 a month still, so only worth it, if people are on more than one long-term medication. This is partly though about the reviews they need to have for being on it... and if those reviews would be charged for.
