This made me incredibly sad...we seem to be living in a world where...over reaction?...seems to be the norm. I'm not sure what to make of this, as I know attitudes are changing. I can remember wolf whistles from construction workers and casual hugs from young men I may not have known well...but I'd never have contemplated pressing charges. What seems most harsh in this case is that he is on the Sexual Offenders list for 5 years.

Yes it could be over reaction or this guy could be a sociopath that she wants to avoid.
There are no normal people in that story. None.
I doubt we can judge without the full facts. Maybe if she'd not complained it could have been a prelude to stalking.
Not being there it's difficult to know the situation, but it sounds an overreaction to me. Someone touches you on your arm and waist and you burst into tears later ? Was her mother watching him letch at her breasts and reach out for them on the second occasion ? It seems he should appeal or something. Even if intent was more nefarious it hardly seems to qualify as a sexual offence. Especially as there's no previous.

It's clearly not easy being a man in this women's world.
If someone can't make friends, even just one or two, then it kind of indicates there is something socially off with them. This gives the impression he's socially awkward, or not socially aware, or that he is a sociopath, which may not be his fault. Then when that same person meets you on a wide path and actively walks in front of you staring you in the eye, to then put his hand on your waist, to then just walk off, it even more indicates that he's a sociopath. I'd certainly do something about this, maybe not press charges, but certainly make people aware.
I don't know what to say. If the story is true she's going to really struggle with life.

Based on limited knowledge of the young mans personality, sociopath seems a rather strong term to use.

Oh...and socially awkward/socially unaware is not the same as being a sociopath.
"...sociopath seems a rather strong term to use. "

A refreshing change from 'moot' though.
It's Spath who said it. Say no more.
Sociopath:

a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behaviour.

If you've got no friends, it bodes the question.. "Why?".

I wonder how the women on Ab would feel with a male coming up to them in a similar fashion, and putting their hands on you.

Especially in this day and age.

It's these sort of kids that end up shooting up schools in america because they have a grudge against the entire of society. The kids obviously troubled, he was ordered to pay for damage to a chair showing he may have uncontrollable rage.

Also, I hate to be that guy but I don't get the best vibes from his pictures.
I cannot see how touching an arm and a waist adds up to a sexual assault.
Well the courts can.
If the story (and that's a big if) is true then I find it sad.
However at Pastas question if a man came up and gave me a casual hug that I did not know he would get a knee in the gonads!
Sociopaths act 'normally' and usually don't have trouble making friends. Totally different thing from being socially awkward.
Spath...they don't 'shoot up' schools, they shoot people.
Not in every case, Ludwig.
Ummmm i'm not sure you could be more pedantic if you tried.
It does seem harsh, but the court made a decision for a reason so there must be more to it than presented.
I'd have thought getting the two in a room to explain their side and discuss would have been more helpful, at least as a start, than involving the police after one incident.
Umm and Ludwig, there really is no point! We all know he is right, we all know that we are wrong and that we should just bow to the greater knowledge and understanding of the Great God Spath.
