I've been to many swimming pool, night club, and retail outlet (usually charity / thrift shops) where all changing rooms / toilets and other facilities are unisex shared facilities.

It's really not a problem.

When we took age sim to get his school uniform there was just one changing room in the small ship for both boys and girls so we waited while a girl tried hers on. There was a curtain. Naturally.

I’d say it was simply rationalising.
A lot easier to have single sex areas as long as privacy is maintained.
There was a similar fuss about “changing villages” in leisure centres

Doesn't bother me. It's no different to being somewhere like the Fat Face shop where there could be me in one cubicle and a man in the one beside it. I think the old style female communal changing rooms were far more disprespectful of peoples' privacy.
