This is a genuine question.

Why?

I just don't get it.

The Jewish people, throughout history, have been persecuted - a friend of mind lives in the Kazimierz part of Krakow and I visit him a couple of times a year, and to this day, in some courtyards, you can still see the bullet holes in walls from the pogroms.

Why do some in Labour hate them so much?

What you call ‘negative, offensive and conspiratorial notions emanate from several factors, not least the lie that the Jews killed Jesus. As we know, human beings are prone to jumping on bandwagons and, not being adverse to propagating lies when it suits, sticking the knife into those they perceive to be different. Because of their self-maintained exclusivity, the Jews are and always have been different. They are unique. They have always been money lenders, bankers and traders and they’ve made a lot of money from it, which means from other people, so whilst it might be politically correct to say that //any "ancient notion" relating to Jewish people and finances is utterly without foundation. //, it simply isn’t true.

If it's a lie then surely that implies that it's baseless? Also... look, I don't want to get into an argument about something which in substance we agree with, but can you at least see the point I'm trying to make? Tying up Jewish people in any sort of global elitist conspiracy, or applying various of the insults they have been subject to throughout history, is wholly without foundation. That's true whether or not there have typically been a lot of Jewish people involved in business. That's the point. That's all I'm trying to say.

I don't know how or when all this animosity towards Jews has come about. Up here in nearby Prestwich there has been a Jewish community for many years. Approx 30,000 plus. They had their own schools, synagogues, hospitals etc. Hard working people , tailors, dressmakers, shopkeepers, mill owners,bankers. I don't ever remember there being any trouble . I wish that we could turn the clocks back to an era where people were allowed to 'live and let live'.

And, again, let me underline just how stupid this whole discussion is. I had no intention at any point of disagreeing with you. My post on the first page that started all this was meant to provide a different angle supporting your criticism of Labour's inability to "understand the difference between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism". How you managed to turn it into an argument is beyond me. Maybe I could have gone into more details but the reason I did not is because something that I consider to be wholly nonsensical and frankly offensive is not something I think it's worth my taking the time to outline in minute and intricate detail.

The simple point I am making, then, is that there are clearly strands to anti-Semitism that appeal particularly to a socialist view of the world. Those strands are wholly abhorrent, and inasmuch as they stray into conspiracy theories they are wholly baseless. That is all. Can you at least agree on that point?
