Agree with Ken, regards Fawlty Towers, funniest comedy ever. In my opinion. Very clever writing. I laughed so hard too, I could hardly breathe at times, plus being eight months pregnant, whilst watching the one about the corpse, I honestly though I was going to give birth where I was laughing so much!
No. I don’t remember any racism in Fawlty Towers, anyway.
Alf Garnett in Til Death Do Us Part was written as a parody. I’d hope that new viewers would see that.
Repeats of these classics are not normally shown on the main channels, these days, so the chances of stumbling across them accidentally are, imho, a tad remote. So you would have to 'want' to watch them to access those channels. It follows, then, that you are fully aware of their content and that, unless you're 'Angry of Accrington' and want to complain about their racism, you are comfortable with that.
An example of racism in Fawlty Towers was (supposedly) Sachs portrayal of Manuel as a Spanish stereotype. There may have been others. But I found it very funny.
Unfortunately Davebro, there is no link as I was watching it being discussed on Jeremy Vine this morning and it gave me food for thought, personally none of them offend me and like I said in my OP switch over or switch off
The clip they showed from Fawlty Towers was where Basil calls Manuel a S...PIC
Fawlty Towers, imho, is the funniest sitcom i've ever seen. There was, though, hints of racism in most episodes in the way Manuel - "he's from Barcelona" - was verbally and physically abused. Also the episode in which Basil got the knock on the head just as the hotel had German guests. I never felt guilty as i rolled on the floor laughing my whatsits off:-)
There’s an episode of Fawlty Towers where The Major and Basil are discussing cricketers, and The Major explains the difference between w***s and n*****s.
I’m pretty sure they’ve not shown that over recent years.
Not that it’ll ever be shown again, but can I be offended by the term “white honky” which was frequently used in Love Thy Neighbour?
Not that I would be.

That scene in Fawlty Towers, where the Major is explaining the difference between w**s and n*****s cannot possibly be construed as racist by any rational person. He is merely pointing out the definitions of the two offensive terms.
FT was sold to numerous countries but, unsurprisingly, was initially a bit of a flop in Spain because of the treatment handed out to Manuel. However, the programme became a hit in that country when the programme was re-sold to Spain with his nationality changed to Italian - except in the Catalan region where he became a Mexican.
