Hahaha no, not at all! Are you having yourself on?

Much money to be made in the Uk. The more who leave the more opportunity to make money.

How much money does the City of London generate?
London produced in 2016 about £408 billion or $765 billion, over 22% of UK GDP, while the economy of the London metropolitan area—the largest in Europe—generates about 30 per cent of the UK's GDP (or an estimated $669 billion in 2005).
Emmie, it will. However those who survive and paying the tenner will bump prices up to cover it. Their customers who think they are better off for getting a tenner an hour will find more of that going to buy the item which has gone up in price due to the increase of the nmw.
A vicious circle and it's effects have been ongoing for a while now. not much, just a drip, drip effect.

i am all for people getting decent pay, but can see small businesses laying some people off, as they can't afford the increase wage bill. Not to mention as you said putting that cost over to the customer
I'm all for decent pay too Em, but not at such a sudden increase. x
I thought they were all going to move on from austerity ?
Question Author
woof, let's not..
Your question was about ending austerity. Politically, austerity is now almost as big a no-no as anti-semitism
:-)
Question Author
so they all want to end austerity, there the similarities end
Question Author
perhaps some should also read the link, Labour's plans for the next 100 days and beyond.
Unimpressed with the article. Just tells us how much money they promise to throw at this issue.
"...However those who survive and paying the tenner will bump prices up to cover it.".

Plus let's not forget that Labour are going to bring in a 4 day week but without a 20% reduction in wages - in fact, no reduction in wages.

So, your widget manufacturer who employs a lot of minimum wage staff will have the double-whammy of increasing the pay for all the minimum wage earners AND will need to increase his workforce by 20% to cover the new 4 day working week.

Worst case scenario this could make a profit making company into an unprofitable company (let's not forget company tax will also be increasing) forcing them out of business with the loss of jobs, best case scenario is that the 'only' thing that will happen is the cost of the widgets will increase to cover the increased costs.

Labour's plan on the economy doesn't bear-up to even the merest of scrutiny.
This, courtesy of Gromit, from Labour's manifesto

// The next Labour government will create a Just Transition Fund, paid for by a new windfall tax on these corporations. The Fund will, in particular, provide an expected £11 billion support package for nearly 37,000 oil and gas workers, the 126,000 people in jobs dependent on the sector and their communities to make the transition to a clean economy. //

Quite what this enormous workforce that is about to be thrown out of work is going to transition into hasn't been explained.
"so they all want to end austerity, there the similarities end"

You're right, one party started austerity and it has been detrimental to crime and lifestyle in our country an one party wants to end it. Only issue is you're saying the one who wants to end it will ruin our country. It seems you're head over heels finding any quick statement to throw about to tarnish the political party you wish wouldn't get in power. It's tacky.
Question Author
what is tacky??
Question Author
weren't we in big trouble over the financial crash, or has that slipped your mind, we had to find some way out of it and by the way the Lib Dems were part of the package
Saying you’ll end austerity in 100 days is a bit of a gimmick, it can and will be ended as soon as the will is there.
'One party started austerity'...yes they did...to pay the bills left by the previous party.
It was started as a response to the state of the world's economy, brought low by bankers' poor record. And it was the wrong option. Austerity hurts and takes ages, investment stimulates and pulls things back up more rapidly.
