Where I live Labour had a 15,000 majority in 1997.
Yesterday, it was less than 3000. If they Brexit party had stood down, the Conservatives would (probably) have won.

// Labour now has an incentive to transform themselves ...into an electable left wing party //
I don’t think a left wing party will ever again be electable in the UK. We have all changed. Unfortunately they need a Blair v2.0, a right wing Tory Lite to lead them.
Gromit, Burnley last returned a Tory back in 1910, and he only lasted 11 months. Yesterday's election returned a Tory who probably didn't even know where Burnley was until he was chosen to be his party's candidate - he lives in London. If proof were needed that this election was, for many, all about Brexit, then surely this is it. I will watch with interest to see just how well the young Mr Higginbotham represents this constituency.
All those people in the house who said they didnt trust Boris seem to be out or on their way so maybe they are the ones that the electorate didnt trust ie Jo Swinson, Corbyn, Nigel Dodds. Also worth of note the shouting man from outside Parliament Steve Bray standing as a LibDem only managed 949 votes.
