the police have many more vehicles than are used for fast chasing (how fast could a criminal actually go round london for example anyway?) i nearly bought and electric car last time and it was as fast as a petrol car, and as mentioned previously they have superior acceleration (or so it seemed when i was test driving them). i would put forward the opinion that high speed chases only really make up a small amount of police car usage
It's not clear from the report in your link as to whether the vehicles were ever intended to be used as emergency response vehicles. It could be that, just like ambulance services (where there are emergency ambulances and far cheaper patient transport ambulances), the police recognised that some vehicles don't need to be used in emergency situations (such as the vehicles used by forensics teams), enabling them to purchase eco-friendly vehicles to be used for such purposes.
Ahh bless. Another virtue signalling exercise that exposes the incompetence of our civil service. Don't suppose that many of the "new breed" of coppers know how to ride a bike let alone ride it fast enough to power the lights on one. How many of the numbskulls who wasted taxpayers money with this naive judgement call do you suppose have been taken to task? None or less? How about plod being issued with horse and cart "green machines" to chase the villains? With a posse of bucket and spade technicians to follow up the inevitable fallout. Or maybe they could use wind powered buggies with nice rainbow coloured sails. Oohh they would like that alright. "So woke whilst going for broke" is the new logo.
