I'm sure you're being a little facetious TTT, but you must recognise that politics in the UK is fatally undermined if one party has essentially a monopoly on power because any opposition is unelectable. Where then would be the ability to hold the government to account? The Tories could make mistake after mistake and suffer no consequences.

It's vital for the Labour Party, and the opposition in general, to sort itself out and offer a viable alternative.

I sincerely hope Keir Starmer doesn’t win.
He’s cleverly kept on with the membership by not distancing himself too far from Corbynism.
Labour needs a much more radical overhaul, and Starmer is too closely associated with the old shadow cabinet.

jim 12:50, whilst I agree that you do need a competent opposition to keep the government honest, I do think that, like 1979, we have a new dawn, a chance for a strong government to make real progress. So forgive me if I would like to keep Labour in disarray for long enough to sort a few things out.

I'm not so convinced that it's a new dawn (obviously), but leaving that aside, it's been a shambles from an opposition that already had the government in exactly the position they needed, and then thought it would be clever to throw that all away. Whether it's a false dawn or whether I'm just hopelessly pessimistic, the situation the Opposition parties find themselves in is entirely self-inflicted.

I've heard him speaking in the Commons, what a boring man!
Labour are in a desperate state with the contenders that are coming forward, they will be in the wilderness for many years imo.
I'm a former Labour voter and am one of those who 'lent' their vote to Boris, I will lend it to him again as well because I cannot vote for a Labour party that I do not recognise!
