Rape Hypocrisy?

Britain’s worst rapist, Reynhard Sinaga has been convicted and hopefully will spend the rest of his life jail.

But in this case, he preyed on drunk young men, giving them a room for the night, then spiking their drinks with GHB.

If his victims had been women, there would be plenty of people who would say that the victims were partially to blane for getting into that state’.

Where are those voices now?

Is this hypocrisy?

Let’s not get hung in semantics - I don’t mean blame (or even ‘blane’). I’m referring to those who hold the belief that women who are assaulted when they are blind drunk lack responsibility and not allow themselves to get into such a state.

The point you make is valid. To some, women wearing revealing outfits while staggering around town means 'they are begging for it'. Whereas a guy staggering around town just means he's 'enjoyed himself'. Definitely double standards but many women will tell you that's always been the case when it comes to how differently the sexes are viewed in life in general.
What I don't understand is how these mostly 'heterosexual' men didn't realise they had been raped upon waking up. Surely they must have been in some discomfort?

Well, let's be honest sp1814, those who do think that way are of a less enlightened upbringing. They should be castigated and derided for those opinions. The average person supports victims of rape or abuse regardless of their gender or circumstance.

I have seen it suggested women are 'asking for it' when drunk (and lets face it if you are off your trolley you are asking for trouble male female or whatever). But not when drinks have been spiked as was the case here.

What's the Cyprus case got to do with this? That girl has been in a court of law and faced justice. Some people on here can't accept that fact when it happens, as we've seen in the past.

No one should be blamed for the actions of others, but everyone should acknowledge that there are some nasty people around and therefore do whatever they can to maximise their own safety. Laying off the booze and, hence, keeping a clear head is a good place to start.

Is being given the ‘date’ rape drug on top of being intoxicated different? I believe it renders the victim totally unaware of what’s happening to them, hence Manchester police looking for possibly another 70 people this evil monster may have raped without them knowing

One can see why. Going back with to the home of someone of the same sex as oneself is unlikely to result in raising alarm bells thinking one is taking a risk of abuse. Whereas going back with someone you've just met of the opposite sex should automatically make one consider the possible risk.

The reality, as this shows, is that there is risk in both scenarios, but the same sex one seems to result in abuse much more rarely.

I think folk need some leeway and not be criticised for seeing the obvious difference. But also, no victim should be castigated for getting caught, even though they will have learnt what is unwise and how to avoid it in future.

No - they were drunk.

They were picked up on the street, offered a bed for the night and once back at his apartment, then they were drugged.

So back to the question...if these victims were women, there would be a significant number of people who would say that they are partly responsible for allowing themselves to get into that state (blind drunk and willing to go back to a stranger’s flat to sleep it off).

So why not here?

Why do so many people think that female rape victims are partly responsible for what happens to them, but not male victims of rape?

The victims get smashed ,usually students,they lose their phone, their wallets,their house keys,the monster befriends them telling them “You can use my charger, I only live a short distance from here’ or ‘You can crash at mine ‘ he then offers them a drink and administers the date rape drug, then rapes them

i googled about what you said about discomfort and apparently if you relaxed ie drunk drugged it does not cause any, the anal muscles are not tensed
