"Mum clearly taught me a certain set of values which I will always try an uphold despite the roll and the job that that sometimes entails, but I think I will always protect my family and now I have a family to protect so everything that she went through and everything that happened to her is incredibly raw every single day and that's not me being paranoid it's me not wanting a repeat of the past and if anyone else knew what I knew, be it a father be it a husband be it anyone then you'd be doing exactly what I'm doing as well."

Well, this is interesting. The difference in newspaper reports of Kate and Meghan. It’s quite shocking really. https://www. buzzfeednews .com/article /ellievhall/ meghan-markl e-kate-middl eton-double- standards-ro yal

I bet they can't wait to get away from the nasty vindictive press, and the miserable whinging people of this country that seem to think they own them, not to mention the anachronistic nonsense of the monarchy itself.
The trouble is, I don't think they'll ever be allowed to, but fair play to them for trying.
All this fuss, and he's not even in the direct line of succession. It's as if Edward, Anne or Andrew said they were stepping back from royal duties - I mean who would even notice, let alone give a toss?

// Ludwig, I don’t think ‘stepping away’ is the real issue. I think the problem comes from the privileges they want to retain. They're either Royal or their not. //
We don't know what they want to retain yet. They've said they want to be financially independent - good on them. If we need to pay for security, I think that's fair enough - it's only the same as we do for politicians. No-one complains about Tony Blair's security bill, and he's probably wealthier than they are.
The only other thing I'm aware of if the house, which they'd use during the 6 months here, and again, why shouldn't they if they're here on royal business.

//If it was that simple I don't think it would be causing such a headache.//
What complications do you think I'm missing? The 6 month here and there split? I think they'd walk away altogether if they could, but they've offered that as a compromise so it's not such a severe break. It's Harry's way of showing he wants to support the family but not so much the monarchy.

Ludwig, I think there’s a problem with their titles, their security (should the British tax-payer fund that during the 6 months they’re doing their own thing abroad?), and with their planned ventures into the world of business. Given that your suggestion means that they will still be ‘Royal’ they cannot be seen to be using their status for personal gain - but if they retain their HRH how can that not be of influence? I think the whole thing is incredibly complex. I don’t believe Harry is doing the Royals any favours at all. I think he’s doing what Meghan wants regardless of the consequences.
