I'd be more than happy to pay that even if the only things I ever watched was Peaky Blinders and Line of Duty.

So what is it you're commenting about? Is it the manifesto commitment (in which case, as you've already been asked, please point us to the passage in that document which said just that)? Or is it about some Tory bloke you heard in the pub or on the telly saying that?

I'm not supporting Gully here (as my now deleted posts would've confirmed), but aren't a lot of the folk saying the licence fee is good value the same who bash the "beep beep see" for their supposed left wing bias at every possible opportunity?

I bash the BBC - not at every opportunity - but when I spot blatant bias. However, the point is if we're to pay a licence fee, bearing in mind what we get for that fee, we can hardly say that £3 a week is expensive.

I agree with Deskdiary. My 40p per day gives me access to some really good drama, documentaries and excellent music programmes on BBC4. Having watched TV in several other countries, the BBC is still something to be proud of. And no ads!,

A lot of people I have seen on AB and elsewhere advocate getting rid of the TV Licence and replacing it with a subscription.

I very much doubt it would be a subscription of £3 a week.

Anything is expensive if you haven't got it of course and for pensioners in particular now is the time to check eligibility for Pension Credit .

It was clear to me when Boris Johnson made the throwaway statement on camera about considering getting rid of the licence it would come to this.

emmie, being unable to afford something doesn't mean it's expensive - it just means you, personally, don't have enough money to buy whatever it is. All I'm saying is that for what the BBC offers £3 a week is very good value. It costs far more than that to go to see one movie at the cinema.

i was more or less referring to the poverty stricken, some of those who have a tv, like the elderly but haven;t had to fork out 157.odd before.
