Well I’ve reread the earlier posts on this thread and Trump’s competence or otherwise only comes into it after someone made an odd remark to the effect that he had achieved a lot and therefore what right had anyone to criticise him!

Ichkeria, I don't remember reading anything like that - simply someone saying that his money was a legacy from his daddy - which isn't true. His daddy did leave him well-fixed - but through his business enterprises and business acumen he's far wealthier now. I don't think there can be any argument about that ... so why this conversation is taking place is beyond me.

Choosing not to see a film because the format does not appeal is one thing - sarcastically dismissing the achievements of a film you have not seen simply because it is made in a country other than your own is boorish racism.

Because success and suitability are not measured by numbers alone - if they were, Adolf Hitler would be a world-wide hero.

I could come up with hundreds of examples, although if you aren't aware of them yourself by now then I'm not sure there's any point in being more specific. Party loyalty has nothing to do with it, is my point. By any sensible objective standard of behaviour and conduct in high office Trump would have been held accountable long ago. The flaw in cassa's post is that, while undoubtedly some do hate him for the party he represents, it is equally true, if not more so, that Republicans turn a blind eye to his behaviour for the same reason.
