If anyone ever wondered why the singer Duffy went from multi platinum to utter silence, it seems that there is a horrific reason.

A young woman has been allegedly confined and raped -and all you lot can do is use this as a platform for grandstanding. Typical AB.

I reckon NJ and I are two of many in our generation who just don't appreciate the renditions of what the younger generation describe as popular music.Well it isn't neccesssarily popular with me.
Much to my annoyance my wife has the radio on all day but never actually listens to it.When I mention the station has played a rendition twice already today she replies," What this one. I hadn't noticed".
When I ask who the performer is she may say Adele or a.n.other.
It does not matter to me they all seem to follow the same trend.
A nasal twang with an affected American accent or Estuary English/Essex.
Gracie Fields does not rock my boat either.
Ann Shelton and Vera Lynne and I am interested and will happily listen. :-)
I must admit I don't know of either Duffy or Adelle, but do you know Roosevelt Sykes, Clifton Chenier or Mose Allison, not to mention Champion jack Dupree :0)
Whether I have heard of someone or not I still feel a sadness for them to have been through such an assault.
Anne Shelton had a beautiful voice.
Does it really matter who either Adele or Duffy are?

The fact is that Duffy went off the radar a decade ago as she was allegedly the victim of assault and captivity. I don't know if the police are investigating this or not and whether she has provided them with the name of the perpetrator.

She was a very successful artist and then suddenly stopped releasing singles/albums.
//I'm not sure if you're trolling us or you live in a 21st century culture vacuum.//

It must be the latter because I have no idea who either of these ladies are. It might be easier for them to be recognised if they didn't indulge in the silly habit of using just part of their name (though I don't think it would help me much). I thought that stopped when the bloke with the spikey hairdo who played the fiddle faded from the scene.

Point well made Khandro. Jack Dupree is known to me, the others are a blank. I'm guessing they're Blues or Jazz artists too?
"the younger generation "...hmmm? I'm probably a similar age to you retrocop...and I certainly know who both Adele and Duffy are. Maybe I should be embarrassed that I do.
Music does not need to be identified by the age group it is supposedly meant for...it is universal and can appeal to many or just a few.
I know Anne Shelton because my Grandmother was a big fan and I'm 66 and have also heard of this young lady who is hopefully going to come back and make more music.

Nigel Kennedy? :-)

To be fair, the single name things has been going on for decades, from the likes of Fabien and Donovan in the 50s and 60s, through to the likes of Prince and Madonna in the 80s.
How lovely that there are so many smily faces and so much amusement here.
A terrible situation for this young lady.
I don't remember her.
I loved Pink Floyd, Moody Blues and other trippy bands.
I often wondered what happened to her. I had her album "Rockferry" which I loved.

What she has been through sounds awful. I hope she finds some peace. That sort of trauma can stay with you and haunt you.

Doesn't really matter what her name is or what she does. She's a human being who has been horrifically violated.
The thread stopped being about a sexual attack on a young woman @ 08:59 Wed 26th Feb , when it was diverted with no mention of her ordeal.
Absolutely....
Didn’t it just, Mamya. It sickens me when men.... and it’s usually men... post with their prissy mouthed comments on a thread like this. And yes, NJ I do mean you. How often do we have to read your pompous, nose in the air....... I have never heard of her/him irrelevant comments.
I can, from experience, sympathise with this young lady......I wish her well but I do know that she will never fully get over what’s happened to her.
Thanks for posting, Mozz..
it goes back centuries in all sorts of fields, Mozz. Canaletto, Moliere, Farinelli, Piaf...

Obviously, I don't know who any of them were, because they didn't use proper names.
I find it quite sad Gness really because of the reasons behind it mostly, or certainly the reasons I suspect are there.

Goodnight all.x
Certainly makes me wonder, Mamya. Goodnight. X
/// It sickens me when men.... and it’s usually men... post with their prissy mouthed comments on a thread like this. ///

Many men too dislike those sort of comments, which surely stem from a narcissistic origin. This girl's case is both extremely sad and outrageous, and the deflection of the thread onto arrogant trivia is quite disgusting IMHO.

10 years is a hell of a long time, and Duffy must have suffered so terribly throughout that period - thank goodness a compassionate journalist (now there's a rarity) apparently, by his kindness, finally triggered her decision to come out about it. This is just another example of how difficult it is for rape victims, a difficulty which receives scant recognition from the very people who should be supporting those victims. That's the important issue, not whether she's been "heard of" or not.
