I think with a lot of people flouting the rules i think a full lockdown is now essential to avoid the situation we are seeing in Italy. I think the military need to get involved now. What do others think.

Vulcan - the original info I read on the BBC live feed a few days ago.

Hyperbole or damn right lies from the BBC?
Vulcan (and Diddly), here's a link to the form that all french residents must comlete and carry with them, if they venture outside...
https://mobile.interieur.gouv.fr/Actualites/L-actu-du-Ministere/Attestation-de-deplacement-derogatoire-et-justificatif-de-deplacement-professionnel
I assure you it's absolutely true - no lies from the BBC on this one. Just ask anyone who lives in France. Almost identical restrictions in Spain too.
I've actually read about the 90,000 fines handed out but not from any authority.
diddlydo, thank you for the links, although you have exaggerated what has been reported in your links. The figure given for number of fines is between 4000 and 5000, you gave the figure of 90,000. Not all the fines are for 135 Euros, they range from 38 to 135.
Vulcan - those articles were from a few days ago. They're upped the ante since then and I actually know someone who was fined 135 euros at the weekend for straying too far from home!
Found it but it could still be hyperbole

It was also revealed on Sunday that French police had handed out over 90,000 fines to those who had not respected the rules of confinement.
Whilst appalled at the actions of a section of our community I'd prefer to avoid a precedent whereby our government can push the citizens around like that. It's what you expect in tyrannies not in the free world. Folk misbehaving can be tackled about their behaviour and persuaded to do the right thing. Peer pressure can bring shame and for many a change in attitude. Aside from that, those who want to catch the virus earlier rather than later can choose to put themselves at risk.

But stock pilers can debatably be first against the wall.
Utilitarianism, the greatest good for the greatest number of people, hence, the alleged comment from Cummings.
in lock down thousand will die from loneliness and BOREDOM ! and possibly starvation
