Does anyone know how to go about getting a repeat prescription?
I usually get an 8 week cycle of medication, the rules changed just before the corona virus broke, i'm 72 and don't know if my doctors is open to ask, or my pharmacy, i've tried phoning doctor but there is no answer, I suppose because they are busy.
Any help much appreciated, thanks.

Yes I have, but there is no answer, no doubt they are under pressure
I don’t know if it is the same in all practices but my husband had one due. He had to drop his repeat prescription through the letter box at the doctor’s and it was then sent to the pharmacy for him to pick up his medication. The pharmacy has posted on a local Facebook page that 2 days is needed for the prescription to be processed. Not sure if this would be the case for over 70s. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
Get a healthy unsequestered person to attend your surgery and pharmacy and sign up for online renewals and delivery. If you need help someone can talk you through it from a safe distance.
ours is as Milo2 says but the pharmacist delivers

I order my repeat prescription on line via patient access but you will have to register with the scheme to get a passcode first.
boots will sign you up for postal delivery repeats without a passcode provided your GP's will deal with them. My sis has just done this.
Open an on-line NHS account?
I too use Patient Access online, I am alarmed that your surgery is just ringing out and does not at the very least have a recorded message with advice for you.
Sent my prescription slip to the doctors and nominated a pharmacy near me...I can pick up in a couple of days...If you haven't already done so ring your surgery and ask them what procedures they hav put in place for those that need repeat prescriptions....looks as if it is different for different surgeries

re reading I see that you got no answer....I had to hang on for 15 mins until the phone was answered
I am on a repeat prescription which I order on line and the prescription is delivered to my local pharmacy. I was advised by my practice to order earlier than I would normally do, and give the pharmacy more time to make it up. Maybe your best bet meantime would be to ring your pharmacy for advice.
Hard to answer any differently to the above, except to say that yesterday I requested a 'phone consultation because my prescriptions had to be checked before being re-issued. I was duly rung & answered questions. I only have asthma and eyes to deal with, which are fairly straightforward, but OH did the same a couple of weeks ago and he has fairly complex heart medication. Anyway, same result for both and prescription renewed for another year. I strongly recommend hanging onto the phone and speaking to someone.

Thanks for all of your answers, some good advice in there. On Monday I will spend more time on the phone to my doctors surgery and the local pharmacy and hope to speak to someone, thanks again.
does your gp surgery have a website? ours has an "ask a receptionist" button which sends an email, which they say is easier for themto deal with at this time
I do all mine by email
and they have electronic prescribing
We had the repeat prescription with our last order. I didn't fancy going into the surgery to put the forms in the repeat request box. I phoned our co-op pharmacy to ask for advice. She was so helpful, took the orders over the phone and said medicines will be available for collection on Wednesday. Will ask daughter to collect for us.
Sign up for the online. Not much help for you right now but worth doing going forward. Prescriptions can then go direct to the pharmacy you choose.
not all surgeries subscribe to online systems. Ask if yours does. Mine works through a website called Patient Access, but the surgery has to give you a password. Once they have, you can tick on the meds you want repeated and specify what pharmacy you want them delivered to. (If there's a choice of pharmacies you could try asking if any of them do home deliveries for older customers.)
Keep bashing away at your GP - almost all of them are signed-up to Patient Access, from which you can order repeat prescriptions and specify your preferred chemist shop.

Our chemist (London NW9 ) delivers our prescriptions to us within a couple of days of the GP approving them.
