I've been muttering about reporters for a few weeks.
Occasionally on here, on FB and at home.
They are not true journalists, they are supposed to report the news.
Instead, they are cherry-picking bits and then twisting the words to suit their opinion which they are then passing off as journalism.

They should hang their heads in shame.

Stop knocking the journalists. The televised briefing today was embarrassing for those in power - sensible questions from the journos and yet those on the rostrum were as evasive as ever and rarely got anywhere near to addressing the question asked.

Without scrutiny of the way any government handles things we may as well be living in a dictatorship.Perhaps those who criticise journalists and the press would rather read a state owned paper where the government prints only what they think people should know and keeps the public in the dark.

All newspapers have a political bias. They don’t have to be state controlled to ‘print’ misleading articles.

Questioning the current approach and plans is fine- and I think parliamentary debate or house of commons committee scrutiny will help too.
What I don't like are questions along the lines of "are you going to apologise for letting the Cheltenham festival go ahead" (I think I made that up but it's not untypical) or "are you going to resign for letting nurses die!" .. Some like "why did you not learn from the 2016 pandemic planning exercise" are valid questions for another time but I don't see how they help now
One question they should be asking is for some sort of graph/metric to be shown daily on PPE then we are discussing real numbers rather than vague assertions.

Agreed. Questions like that from experienced and previously respected journalists are counter productive. I’ve ditched the BBC as a guide to what’s going on in favour of Reuters.

All I want from journalism is the truth. No manipulating reality to fit your narrative, no spoon feeding bs to appease your demographic, no demonizing individuals who don't share your political ideology.

Take responsibilty. There are idiots out there who actually believe that 5G masts are spreaders of coronavirus or that some foodstuff (seemingly picked at random) can cause cancer.

Mainstream media, both written and televised are failing us. They are too important in modern day politics to be allowed to continue like this, whether it be extremism on Fox or bias on the Beeb, it can't go on.

Everyone is struggling to adjust to this situation. The journalists and opposition can't quite get out of the mentality of trying to point score and trip up the government at every possible opportunity, and the government can't quite get out of the mentality of covering their own ar.rrse rather than just giving everyone the straight truth without any spin.

It does need more of a wartime coalition mentality where everyone including the public is united in fighting a common enemy.

Of course the Government are taking on board scientific and medical advice and acting accordingly. Any proper Government would, but what a lot of people have trouble with is the fact that over 8,000 companies have been producing items of PPE, which they have offered to the Government and many of them have yet to receive a reply. Except, that is, for an automated acknowledgement of receipt of the company's email. We are told that the Government are 'cherry picking' those companies who can manufacture the most, yet we apparently need shedloads of the equipment. As these firm are situated in all quarters of the UK, surely, they could be employed to supply on a regional basis, where possible.

The underlying problem is that the Government treat us like children. Give us the truth backed by official facts and figures, both sides of the argument and why a decision was taken. And get rid of the awful wet weekend Raab.

Failing to do this means you will get the hacks playing on the lack of information to further their career or political agenda.

Currently we are in a position where some very well paid people, paid by the tax payer, are still receiving their full pay whilst telling other poor folk to stay off work with no pay (An no, before the usual start, the Government is not paying people like it claims and many cant claim).

Well the furlough scheme is getting a huge take up (some people have already been paid something) and Universal Credit is delivering quickly too so I'm not sure what you mean by " the Government is not paying people like it claims "

TBF though I think they are mainly driven by fear of getting mis quoted and tripped up by mischievous journos trying to make a name for themselves. Hence the general public are simply observers of a struggle between media and politics.
