Nicola's doing a good job politically in that she is doing what she can to look after the Scottish interests, playing to her national supporters by showing she will ignore the UK government where it suits and is managing to avoid any flack as she can always deflect blame to the UK government where necessary . Like Starmer she claims credit for persuading Boris to decide to publish a roadmap for relaxation- but then dismissed the plans as premature when they came
Keir Starmer is doing a reasonable job of appearing statesmanlike and reasonable and semi supportive... but always adds a "but". If the govt does something he likes he is good at saying "they listened to us". He was able to appear surprised and concerned when the announcement on Sunday of the outline roadmap didn't contain detail, even though he knew the detailed document was to be published and debated on the following day.
Both are playing a good longer game
