What a harrowing watch, made worse by what the Police Officer is saying.

Dreadful.
They have been 'terminated' - sounds extreme.

You would think that amongst a group of officers there would be one who wasn't a thug.

You would also think that since the US has people of all colours (including Orange) that it would no longer be an issue and they could just be nice to each other.
no I dont think they have been
we do things in a difft order in the UK - criminal side takes place first for all sorts of reasons
Of course not. Very low chance that they will be.

What is particularly shocking is how hard it is even to find any kind of data about this. Best estimates are that maybe about 1,000 people a year die at the hands of US police, although it should be noted that in many cases this would be completely reasonable (eg because the victim was armed and firing at the time). But accountability beyond being sacked (or being quietly rotated to another force) is comparatively rare.
The FBI have taken over the investigation, so I guess it's up to them to take any further action against the officers involved, and that would come after an ME's report stating the actual cause of death. The Minneapolis Police Department and even the States BCA are sort of in the background now.
They MUST be arrested before any legal action can take place !
The arrest would have been the first thing to happen !
(By Police officers from a different force !to their own !)

The cause of death is still being investigated so they have not arrested or charged the officers at the moment. No doubt ,having been dismissed, they will be on bail pending results of the cause of death.
The one who knelt on his neck for minutes whilst screaming 'Get up off the floor and get into the car' wants charging with something whatever the cause of death is put down to.
Where to begin.
ML, for some reason I can't see that video. You quoted the officer is saying 'Get up off the floor...'. Did he really say that, because to me, only British people refer to any ground outside of a building as 'the floor'?
It seems the answer to that is "not yet"
"Police said in a statement earlier about the death of George Floyd: "As additional information has been made available, it has been determined that the Federal Bureau of Investigation will be a part of this investigation."
Speaking to US media on Tuesday, Chief Arradondo said the force's policies "regarding placing someone under control" will be reviewed as part of the probe.
According to the Associated Press news agency, Minneapolis police officers are allowed under the department's use-of-force policy to kneel on a suspect's neck as long as they do not obstruct the airway.
Asked about the FBI's involvement, Chief Arradondo said he made the decision to include the agency after receiving "additional information" from a community source "that just provided more context".
In a statement, a spokesperson for the FBI Minneapolis division said the agency's investigation woud focus on whether the police officers involved "willfully deprived the individual of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States".
When completed, the agency will present its findings to the Minnesota state's attorney for possible federal charges. The Minnesota BCA, which investigates most in-custody deaths, will continue to conduct its own investigation, focusing on possible violations of state laws."
Beeb this morning
I wondered if the mayor was aware that no jury would convict .....

This is an appalling case and the 'police officer' applying force onto this mans neck is culpable of causing his death, whichever way you look at it.

I can't believe they are permitted to use this method of restraint. It's horrific and I'm glad there is video evidence of it. Whether this man had or hadn't committed a crime, there are less invasive ways of restraint.
Looking at the video, it looks a lot like murder.
Had the boot been on the other foot as it were, that would be a certainty.
They usually say that the suspect was continuing to struggle in these cases. Yeah, no sheet Sherlock. If I was suffocating I'd probably struggle a bit too. Manslaughter charges (or whatever the US equivalent is) should at least be considered.
Sanmac, sorry I missed your earlier comment to me - you are of course correct, he said 'ground' and not 'floor'.

Judging by some photos of this guy posted on Twitter I would go as far as to say it was premeditated.

If you can predict the premeditated actions of someone based on images of them you see on social media, there is a job for you with any law enforcement organisation on the planet - name your price, they will pay it.
