Have the Government issued telephone numbers from which we can expect to be informed of our close proximity to those tested positive? I ask because, like many, I don't even bother answering my phone if an unknown number comes up on the display. Only if they (more or less) immediately call again. Don't wanna be self isolating on the word of some prankster pretending to be one of Matt Hancock's army of 'notifiers'. :-((

This plan seems to involve a great deal of trust and goodwill. The situation could happen that someone due to work, travel, etc is required to have multiple periods of self-isolation due to their contact with infected people. Why not offer antigen and antibody tests? Or doesn't the testing regime have sufficient capability?

Same way as you would have managed previously if anyone in the household had symptoms.

Might be worth having a back up plan- eg set up food deliveries or find some neighbours to do a quid pro quo deal with if needed

Under the new system, if a contact has no symptoms, only the contact needs to self-isolate, not the household.

It won't work here in the UK, whatever method is used for this simple reason: any method depends upon people being honest and not faffing about. Here, especially if an "app" is involved, it will be treated as an amusement. You will thus get people "having a laugh" and reporting themselves with symptoms. Then all their contacts (whether they are identified by mobile phone, personal reports or whatever) will, if isolation becomes an "instruction" (i.e. punishable by a penalty or a fine) find themselves under house arrest on the information made by somebody having a laugh. Not something I would like to fall victim to.

ZM, that's why I said if they have no symptoms but yes, if they do have symptoms, the household has to self-isolate.

Hmmm. Unsure folk would want the authorities to think they had symptoms if they didn't. May get a visit from masked figures ensuring that they're isolating. Perhaps getting the hidden app tracking turned on too... oh you say it doesn't have that ? Oh, ok then.

There's already been people messing about. Some eople have downloaded it more than once (OK I imagine some will have genuine reasons to do so but I doubt all of them have). And there's been people on the mainland downloading it (thus casting doubt on the published figures for usage on the IoW). Whenever there is something available to stick on a phone people will do it and mess about with it. It's what they do and if the government is seeking any sort of reliable tool to tackle the virus it should look elsewhere.

I don't really see why we need all this tec, as been stated above, I can't see it working. Normally simple things work better, such has hospitals reporting there daily intake of virus patients for their area, to include doctors for the same area, if it appears to be exploding, then put a radius lockdown on, that way police could patrol the given area better. Not full proof I know, so I will leave you lot to pick my plan to bits. :0))))))))
