I don't think the people doing the washing see it as humiliating.

I would bet that this happens all the time and the DM, in it's usual fashion, is using it as a counterpoint to the Floyd story. Always good to ask 'why' the DM has chosen to write an article at a particular time. They have an agenda, you know.
