What you seem to miss is that it simply doesn't matter. There is nothing he did that justified his death. The criminal act of killing someone is far more serious than the criminal act of using a counterfeit note/cheque. I know which one I would rather take more seriously.

I'm not going to sit here and defend Floyd as some kind of shining example of humanity. That isn't the point either. When Chauvin restrained Floyd in the act of arresting him, and Floyd ended up dead, Chauvin became a criminal too.
