// Dexamethasone is an extremely useful drug and am a little surprised it wasn't used earlier for those seriously ill.//

yeah I thought it was in 'the bundle'

surprised that no one noticed they were doing better on an ad hoc basis
Seems it may well have been one of those trialled and as Chris says it then had to be balanced re dosage etc.
Looks hopeful so all good.

There was another drug that the gov announced was in use a few weeks ago as well. Can't remember the name but I think it was originally used for ebola.
something like RemyMartin Tigger. Well it began with R
Remdesivir was being trialled in May, not sure how that went.
My greater fear would not actually be copping a dose but having it seriously enough to have to be ventilated. That would probably create the most chance of mortality for me so a preventative drug to alleviate that treatment sounds good to me.
Lol, Retro!

it won't alleviate the treatment. but it will help your body to survive it.
apparently remdesivir is proving helpful for some people and is now prescribed
mushroom
Do you mean the steroid will not enhance my respiration and will not necessarily negate the requirement for ventilation in some or most cases. ? I always thought with my on-going health problems that a ventilator would probably be my death knell.
Apparently the report itself is not widely accessible, only the "bottom line" conclusion turned into headlines. The study has not been peer reviewed, others rushed out into publication in the medical press were subsequently withdrawn. I have seen an interview with an infectious diseases specialist who said that internationally and right at the beginning it was considered whether steroid-type drugs would help but quite soon the conclusion was that in fact they were somewhat detrimental. This latest "breakthrough", of a steroid cure, is yet to be confirmed.
If any of us ends up in hospital in an induced coma on a ventilator, we'll take whatever drugs we're given, without having the benefit of arguing with the doctor about something we saw on Youtube.
