Royfromaus - “You too seem to have omitted why you would have run from these people. Why would you have run?” If you're talking to me (it helps if you make this clear) then my answer would be – I wouldn't have. I would have stood my ground – unless I was specially ordered to gather info only and retreat if confronted. The day I kneel before a baying mob of fascist,...

For goodness sake you sanctimonious twerp Roy.
If you think in this climate two unarmed policemen with some very expensive kit should stand their ground with a mob shouting abuse at them then you have no idea of what has been happening. Unless you have experience of that I doubt you will understand the difficulties they were under.
I simply despair of people’s ability to think sometimes.

Well said. I'd forgotten about the Ministry of Truth where Winston worked. D'oh!
I've read this book twice now. Maybe a third read is in order just to refresh my memory and re-invoke my passion to rail against the fascistic, authoritarian, thuggishness displayed by BLM, Antifa, and all their woke allies.

There's is legislation afoot that will make the social media platforms liable for damages should they de-platform a person without good (legal) reason. I understand that the potential fine for doing so would be a maximum of $5000. Not a King's ransom but considering the number of potential lawsuits, that snowball could turn into an avalanche.
What we are seeing now (and will increasingly be seeing) is a purging of any accounts that might become financially problematical in the future. The law of unintended consequences prevails yet again. Although I agree with the proposed legislation and think that will ultimately do good, in the short term it will do a tremendous amount of damage to existing nonconformist commentators. Katie Hopkins is the first in a soon to be a very long list of de-platformed persons. There will be many, many others.
