Indeed. They sometimes struggle with their conscience tho, judging by a piece I watched on TV the other night.
Poor souls. My heart bleeds.
oh thank god this white supremacy thread is back on track
after a perpatetic discursus thro the ancient languages
Meanwhile Dominic Raab says he doesn’t understand the fuss as personally he’s always preferred BLT sandwiches.
If we are such a racist country , why then do people risk their lives in a 22 mile wide stretch of water to get here ?
The people who get scholarships are a very very small minority, Naomi. Do you not have a little sympathy for The vast majority living in A country with constant reminders of how abysmally we treated their ancestors?
//how abysmally we treated their ancestors? //

how would you define "we", Zacs? i'm pretty sure my ancestors never owned or traded slaves; indeed they were probably bound in serfdom to the lord of the manor and traded in the same way that slaves were. much of the general population will be the same.
I’m answering ‘we’ as a nation, mush, in response (mainly) to gulliver’s comment that we must be one of the least racist nations.
Western Europe, and the UK in particular, is a great place for BAME people to live.

The vast vast majority of people are not racist, and frankly it sickens me that some people paint the UK as a racist nation - there is a tiny minority of mouth-breathers who are racist (as there are in every country on the face of the planet), but to suggest the UK is a racist place is unfair and wrong.
Racism doesn’t have to come from people, DD. It can be inherent in the fabric of our buildings. I didn’t know until the other day that the actor David Harewood’s name stems from plantation owners giving his ancestors the name of the estate’s back in Britain. Harewood house was built on the back of money his ancestors made for the plantation owners.

I have to agree with most anwers on this post, that Boris should not Meet the BLM. Cummings should meet with the BLM. He is in charge of the Conservative Party.
I follow Esther K on Twitter and also Dominique Samuels. Both are pretty spot on with their analogies.

And yes, Esther K is quite stunning!
Seems that that most right-on of newspapers, The Guardian, might have to start calling for, er, The Guardian to be shut down:

No surprise really. This sort of thing often results in people inadvertently climbing up their own bottoms.
Brainiac at 12.41.

That is excellent; I wonder if they’ll be issuing an apology anytime soon.
Lloyds of London has issued an apology for its part in the slave trade. I'm not sure what good that is going to do anyone .... but there you are. Hair shirt anyone?
The article I cited above tells us that not only did the founder of The Guardian have links to the slave trade through his cotton business, but the the paper supported the Confederate side in the American Civil War, and said in 1862 of Lincoln: "it was an evil day both for America and the world when he [Lincoln] was chosen President of the United States".

I look forward to seeing how they respond.
Maybe Lloyd’s apologising will lessen some BAME people’s feelings of Injustice?
