That is rather silly.
Yes Labour were comprehensively beaten, but that does not mean they should give up. They have 5 years to rebuild and that starts now.
Since the election they have changed leader and their shadow front bench.

But not their taskmasters. No, they will never learn.
The super rich are a cancer on society, and as Gromit says, or implies, they are rewarded for doing nothing, and yet their wealth grows.
Sad that some ABers applaud this disparity of wealth.

Labour's tax policies have always been based on envy, anyone on over £70k? Rich b'stards, tax them till the pips squeak. They never seemed to grasp that if you do that no one bothers too much trying to better themselves. Result? Massive under performance all round, yep That's the good ole labour way! No wonder only 4 Labour leaders have ever won and election.
When I see the same story from a non Tory paper I might think about it.
Thanks, I'm thinking about it now.
..not the same story though really. The Express thinks it's an evil plan, whereas the Mirror says it's all marvellous. Which is why I don't read either of them.

Did you grow up between the pages of an Enid Blyton book?
TTT 23:24 "...Labour's tax policies have always been based on envy, anyone on over £70k? Rich b'stards, tax them till the pips squeak. They never seemed to grasp that if you do that no one bothers too much trying to better themselves...."
Do you think that the poor work hard enough? I hope you answer my question in good faith, i.e. your genuine opinion rather than something you have copied and pasted.
Question Author
no doubt many "poor" work hard so when they put in some overtime is it fair that the government takes half of it? That's labour's policy, look at the last time real labour was in power the top rate of income tax was 97%, the basic rate was 33%, How is that an incentive? this is not just about working hard it's about learning new skills, earning more for a higher skilled job, having something to aim for, promotions etc. Socialism discourages that at a fundamental level because they use the tax system, primarily as a away to keep people poor, not merely for revenue. In 1980, TGL cut tax by 2 percentage points, that increased tax receipts over all. Labour have never grasped that.
TTT, do you think then that it would be a good thing to reduce tax for 'poor' people? That would be an incentive for them to work harder to improve themselves?
Or to increase the minimum wage? Or to encourage better pay rates for low-paid jobs such as health and care work etc?
Question Author
Yes I think it would be a good thing and I think they do that with the thresholds etc. Personally I'd abolish direct taxation completely and make us like a large Monaco. The companies of the world would descend, wages would sky rocket. everyone would have much more disposable income and the take from indirect taxation would more than compensate.
//do you think then that it would be a good thing to reduce tax for 'poor' people? //

As a recall there was a low rate tax for the low paid. Labour under Gordon Brown abolished it.
Question Author
yes, 10% Naomi, and Gordon Brown abolished it, he also abolished tax relief on pension dividend income thus giving all people with a pension a kicking. Good ole Layba!
That is correct. It was 10% up to a certain level before going up to 20%.
TTT/Jackdaw, when the Labour Party say ‘Up the workers’ they don’t mean what the faithful think they mean. ;o)
