1. 0.06% of the population who have caught Covid have died.
2. 0.0007% of the population who have caught Covid but are under 45 have died.
3. Those under 40 are 70 times less likely to die from Covid than those over 80.
That assumes you catch it in the first place, and at odds of 4000 to 1, that alone is unlikely.

Estimates of the number that have died range from 40,000 to 65,000. I prefer the 65,000 number myself: excess deaths. But let's go with the lower number: 40,000 deaths. If 0.06% of the population who have caught Covid have died, and 40,000 have died, then the population who have caught Covid is 66.7 million - everybody in the whole country. Not everybody in the whole country has had Covid, so you've got your numbers mixed up somewhere.

I hadn't realised that for a long time now the government's own figures on deaths come with thwe caveat that " ... not all deaths reported here are caused by coronavirus"
I don't know whether to rejoice at that, or wonder why the hell this is not pointed out more clearly (too embarrassing the other way?) or what.
Of course, the actual deaths from coronavirus must be accurate cos a lot more people have died than normal.

18.37 What the numbers tell me is that we have a new virus unlike any other, and if we don't keep some sort of control over it, or take action to keep it in check, then it will become even more deadly. You can play around with figures and percentages until the cows come home, but this has got the potential to wipe out millions left unchecked. Sadly some care more about their wallets than human life.
