Great idea if it can be made to work.
Most cycling initiatives get crushed by motoring lobbies.
In our town they closed off a road in the centre to all motor transport barring buses and taxis and it made the centre much safer and quieter. Sadly it never got past the trial stage and was binned by a fearful council

not in the midlands. most cycling initiatives here get binned following lobbying from business owners who see their passing trade evaporate. it's not as clear cut as "2 wheels good, 4 wheels bad" - especially now as the high street looks set to fall in the abyss.

We have the worst cycle network in Europe thanks to under funding by a succession of Governments.
Now the Government want to get us all on two wheels, but the infrastructure is sparse, and what there is is often dangerous.
This would have been a good idea if the roads were fit for purpose, but sadly they are not.
