As I was driving to the shops I noticed a sign today by the roadside suggesting motorists avoid Brixton Hill today as there was a demonstration. How Ironic if it was a BLM march considering the particular communities that are in the majority of the three areas mentioned in the link.
BLM? 'Go tell it to the Marines' as they say,

Who mentioned Shoreditch and who called it hellhole? All I can find in the links on offer is this little "report".
""Video footage emerged on Friday night of crowds brawling near Shoreditch High Street station after reports of an unlicensed “block party”.
A police officer was injured as he tried to intervene. MPS Tower Hamlets tweeted: “There is a crime scene near #Shoreditch tube station, after a police officer on patrol was hit with a bottle shortly after 10pm.""
I suppose your perception of what is gentrified depends on your background.

I lived two miles from Shoreditch for 24 years. I return for a fleeting visit now and again. It was an unmitigated, tatty dump then and it is an unmitigated, tatty dump now. The presence of a few trendy businesses of dubious value and a smattering of bars and vegan cafes do little to mitigate that. The only beneficial change is that TfL developed what was previously the isolated East London Line, extending it north and south and subsuming it into the London Overground. This now passes through Shoreditch (instead of terminating there) thus affording those unfortunate souls living there direct access to somewhat more pleasant areas. "Gentrification" is a very misleading term when it comes to places like Shoreditch.
