I'm in favour of the idea, given that cars are less likely to be drunk and aggressive, but I wonder if the technology will really be there by 2021?

I figured you'd say that, and I don't think it will be next century. Still, they're basing their prediction on the invention of something that hasn't happened yet, which seems pointless.

I was wondering about insurance, TTT, but if the cars are going to be doing all the work, perhaps it's them, rather than the drivers, who'll be insured - so manufacturers might insure the cars when they're made and that would be built into the purchase price. If they really are self-drive then it won't make any difference if boy racers or 90 year olds are sitting in the front seat.

if they truly are self driving and must be then possibly but you can just imagine the legal shenanigans.

there are always legal disputes when new technologies become available - eg whether Facebook is a publisher that's liable for what's on it, or just a bookseller that distributes things for other people. It'll get sorted out. Interesting times.
